Thread: so.. surveying on mounts...
I guess it won't stop because before it would only stop if you stood up. I would guess you'd have to either dismount or (if that doesn't work) dismount, crouch, and then stand.
Surveying from a mount is fabulous, sampling is silly.
You have to kneel when sampling on foot, implying the tool must 'dig' or some such, it makes no sense that I can do that on a hoverbike or Cu Pa.

No actually.... The sampling tool is just like a metal detector. It doesn't *do* any other work than screaming "DIG HERE DUMBASS!"

You really shouldn't intentionally try tonerf the player classes, there's nothing game breaking about being able to pick up a whopping 3-4 units of material from the safety of a bike. I just wish there was a command to stop it. Have you ever tried being a Chef/Artisan type and trying to sample from the richest resource spot which just HAPPENS to be under the resting spot of half a dozen voritors? What am I smoking... of course you have.. you're the correspondent. So anyways, risk/reward my ass... you aren't placing a harvester, you're just doing some sampling. Any risk mitigation I take by sampling on a bike is sort of self-reinforced by the fact I can ONLY sample from a bike. I certainly can't sit there and pull up 100k resources, I can't place a harv, I can't do anything else than just look. Not to menton thatby the time I get to my spot and pull up a sample, I already have half adozen cranky voritors aggroon me and it's time to get the hell out ofDodge anyways. In normal circumstances I wouldbe deadby now. I still run the risk ofbecoming dead, it's just lessened a bit(which I believe is a fair trade for being able to only sample something)Tell me please... why would intentionally bring this up as a bug? What's it a bug of? Next step in this thinking would be to nerf managing harv consoles from a bike too? That would really piss off a lot of people even tho I'm sure it's a bug also. If you can't manage bank terminals and start conversations from a bike.. why would you be able to use bank and mission terminals from? What were they thinking?!?!?!
And I really, really, dislike the whole "in the real world, I would never be able to....." Are you typing this post from the back of your Cu Pa in real life? Please stop going there.. this game isn't based on reality, therefore there should be few if not no comparisons to how things work "in the real world"
Constructive part of post : In any case, it seems to be a time thing.. if you just start barelling ahead on your bike you will hear the next sample attempt but you will not sample, it will say you stopped.
Anyways, /bump for not making changes where none are needed.. it reminds me of the scouts kicking and screaming that mask scent on a bike should be nerfed just because some Rangers were leveling up Scout xp by hopping on their bike and careening through Endor. Who cares? There are ways around everything.Like you can't"cheat" the system by having your friends kill a nest of bull rancors and harvesting them? Any idea how much scouting xp you get from that little venture (which actually takes FAR less time than speederbike mask scenting..... ) So what if a few people misuse the talent? You're still not fixing a damn thing but you're screwing over people who actually depend on that ability. (like Bio-Engineers).
Most people use mask scent and bikes to get away from critters... we use them both to get *closer* to critters.
/rant off. Forgive the abrasive nature of the post altho I feel entitled to my opinion. I find few enough things actually going for the players, enough to warrant a vehement disagreement with a pointless nerf, coming from the correspondent, no less.

What? Want more... what, precisely? Let me repeat for you.. IT'S IN THE PATCH NOTES aka it's an intended feature. It is not a bug. It's not something that slipped through the cracks and it's certainly not an exploit.
I am not asking for something that hasn't already been put into the game, in fact I'mdoing the exact opposite. I'm asking that y'all leave the game aloneright now, there'snothing that needs nerfing in regards to sampling/surveying on mounts. The only thing that needs to be fine-tuned is the ability to stop sampling as it's iffy at best right now, even tho in and of itself it's a minor inconvenience at worst.If anything*you're* the one who isn't happywith the changes because *you're* the one decrying them as "just silly" and want them changed. Read the patch notes if you don't believe me, they're in English I'm pretty sure. So let me turn it back on you. If you don't like it, get off your bike when you want to sample, I sure as hell won't be stopping you. I prefer to use the new ability, I just wish I knew an easier way to stop it is all I'm saying, it was confusing when I first encountered it, hence the reason for my post.
BTW..... Isn't it silly that we can manage technical consoles from our bikes too?Shouldn't we have this nerfed also to keep the "immersion" level consistent? After all we wouldn't want to be blamed for taking advantage of an oversight in the programming..we have to "earn" our keep, right?What's that? You can't talk to someone while seated on a bike? Silly! Silly I tell you it's just plain silly !!

First, calm down. Agressive posts have a tendancy to get ignored and the writer reported to the mods.
Second, I have no itention of nerfing anthing.
Third, I was mistaken about the sampling. Apparently it is intended that we can do that. I have modified my request such that there is a method to stop the sampling process when initated on a vehicle.
Calm, rational, polite dialog accomplishes far more than rants.

Oh please... because this is the only rant that has ever been posted onthis messageboard.. ok buddy, whatever. I feel perfectly entitled to having a stong opinion on something, especially when it's based on misinformation which is what you were working on. Report me,I honestly couldn't care less. Sounds like I got my point well across in any event, rant or not. *shrug*
