2 new ideas (without checking the boards that is)

Smelting: added to the survey tree. the idea being, say you're crafting something which requires high decay resistance & high overall quality. but you only have one resource with high quality and low decay and another resource with the opposite.

get a smelt/forge/refinery from an architect and mix the two resources into a new one, using expermentation to choose which attributes to keep and produce a new resource. (whith something like a 5:1 output ratio of resources, or some other limiter, otherwise it might make things too easy)

Hotwired Tools: give smugglers the ability to hot-wire tools. i'd love to have a survey tool hotwired into my crafting tool. so that when i'm making an item, the hotwired survey tool would kick in and take a 1 unit sample of the appropriate resources available and list some choices of attributes. time saver or too easy?
