My template only allows me to gain novice artisan & survey I....Can I manage to locate resources with my skill being so low?

The crafting resources I need btw are for doctor supplies.

Yes and no... Surveying I will get you the basics and the ability, but you will only be able to survey on your tools at a certain radius (it's small... can't remember the exact number), whereas you could have a diameter of 320m if you reached Surveying IV (in other words, your survey would go farther and require less pushing of the survey button). Also, Surveying II through Surveying IV help your chances of gaining a larger amount from when you sample manually, so setting up harvesters would be your best bet.

Good luck!

Survey 1 gives you 64 meter radius. Im curently using it till i find something to drop. It works but it takes a wee bit longer.

Once you get to the point of large scale production using med+ harvsters, anything over Survey I is a waste IMO. Trust me, you'll feel the crunch, and those Survey skills are the best first option to dump once you do. Until then, they are quite handy.

btw I'm the mining arm of Dewback Industries and we do just fine and I only kept artisan...dumped Survey I-IV so I could do Ranger/BH hybrid.

To tell the truth, I have found times when the added range of the higher skills is a disadvantage. I have started surveying out in the boonies and had the waypoints being set closer and closer to town. Eventually I would hit a no build zone, so I would have to go back, and set the range lower to find the highest concentration without getting too close to town. In this kind of a case the lower range really helps. Sure you have to hit the survey button a few more times, but it doesn't cost you anything. The only advantage I see to the higher levels is if you are going to hand sample your resources. If you are putting down a harvestor, then there is no real advantage at all.

I find the longer range survey important for one reason - red mobs. At 64 meters a mob could cause a big delay in getting to the richest part of the vein.

At 64 meters every red mob would end up causing me to guess which way they vein woud go. Does it continue straight, does it move to the right or left. I would have to guess right or left, head a good distance around the mob and then survey. If I guessed wrong or worse yet another red mob be there. I would have to spend several minutes moving around before I could pick up the vein again.

Now that I am around 200 meters, if the waypoint would be anywhere near a red mob, I could get 100 meters or so from them, hit survey, and a way point 100 meters beyond the mob would appear. Less guess work and quicker times to find the best sampling spot.
