Howdy,

Does there exist anywhere a "how to" guide on sampling, surveying, and what not? I have zero understanding on the matter and would like to try my hand at it. Only problem is that I do not have a lot of free time to surf the boards for hints on how this might be done. I'd like to maximize what game time I have. Anyone who could throw some quick, basic pointers my way would be a great help.

Thanks,

Soenso

First, the tools, there's7 type of surveying tools:

Mineral: this one survey for gems, metals, radioactives, ores, solid petrochem fuel. these ressources are pretty much the same on all planets with a few variation. On let's say 10-15 different ressources, you will have 3-4 that will vary on different planets.

Gas: let you find inert and reactive gas. like the minerals, the gas are on all planets with a little bit of variation.

Chemical: let you search for lubricating oil, fiberplast, polymer, liquide petrochem fuel, etc... these ressources are specific to a planet.

Flora: survey for wood, berries, vegies, etc... each planet got it's own specific list of flora ressrouces.

water: let you survey for water (Nooo kiding!!!). water is also specific to a planet.

Solar: let you survey the level of solar energy.

Wind: let you survey the level of wind energy.

Second, locating a ressource:

One thing about ressources location is that ressources do not spawn in specific environement, you can be in water up to the chest in a river and not find water but you can find water in the middle of Tattoine surrounded by sand dunes. Just run around and survey, it's the only way to find anything.

When you start up a survey tool, you get a blank square on theleftand a tree list on the right. The list is all the ressources currently available on the planet you are. That's for the whole planet, changing town will not change that list. The square on the left is where the map of the area you surveyed will show. If the ressources you are looking for in available in that area, numbers will show the concentration of that ressource. You are the green circle with an arrown in the middle.

Ressources spawn in approximately concentric circles, with of course the highest spot in the middle. So when you survey, move to the highest number on your tool. Usualy you also get a waypoint to that spot, but currently that function will bug your datapad and the waypoint will stop working after a few survey. you can log off and back in to fix it, use a shuttle or just leave it like that. While the survey window is up, pressing Alt will remove all the windows and let you see where you run, pressing Alt again bring the windows back.

Third, Harvesters:

There's 3 type of harvesters for all ressources, personal, medium and large. All harvesters take one lot of the 10 you have. Personal harvesters are the easiest to place because the take little space, the 2 larger ones are more a pain to install because you need a rater large flat area to place them ( yeah we can fly through space, make blaster and light sabers, communicate between stars and make intelligent droids but we cant make a stupid bulldozer to fill that 2 feet deep hole to level the terrain).

Harvester need power to operate andmoney to stay in good shape, the bigger the harvester the higher the maintenance cost and power need but also theoutput rate.

Power can be either bought on the bazaar or gathered by wind generator, solar generator and fusion-ion reactors. You can guess what ressources are used by the first two generator, the fusion-ion generator use radioactive to produce power. Power generator only use money for maintenance.

That's all i can think of right now, if you have other questions, just post them.
