Thread: New at the Artisan thing... without a cause.
I am looking for input from other Artisan/Crafter types who have been palying for a while. Is it better to run around and gather resources or to focus on crafting items one by one? I am intending to work towards Weaponsmith/Armorsmith and my original plan was to gather lots of the best resources to have at my disposal for future use in quality product. I am beginning to suspect that I have been wasting a lot of time.
Ideas or suggestions enthusiastically welcome and appreciated.

take a glance at my walkthrough forthose that need it
You're much better off having a large amount of the necessary resources before crafting something. The best way to do this is with harvesters. While the machines do the mining, you can be offmaking money and xp via mission terminals. Use what resources you need and sell the rest. At 2 - 3 cr per unit, it will make a good supplimentary income. I've been working at becoming a bio-engineer and to gain the necessary medical xp I have been crafting and selling med supplies. It doesn't make anywhere near the money that selling raw material does, but eventually I'll be able to sell Stimpack C's, pet meds, and even pets at a more decent profit.
One thing to know about machinery is that they do eat up maintenance money.I am running 2 personal wind generators, a chemical extractor, a mineral extractor, a moisture vaporator, and a flora farm. The cost to maintain these 6 items is about 6000 credits per day. The generators take the most money. Selling at least 1k units from each extractor at at least 2k credits will theoretically generate 8k credits per day - with my setup. If the market allows for it, sell them for more (2.5k - 3k per 1k units).
Another thing to keep in mind in salesmanship. The primitive vendors are huge and also require a lot of money to maintain. If you move into the merchant profession, they get better and cheaper. However, I think personal vending the is least effective way to generate business, unless you are really popular and have items that everyone reallyneeds/wants. The best way to sell is to hock your wares in town. Shout out what you have and let the customers come to you. The next best way is via the bazaar terminals intown.
