I bought 100k of Naukim radioactive power on Chimaera for 5cpu to power my heavy harvesters. It has an OQ over 900 and seems very good quality.
Have I bought power that is better suited to crafting? What is the power I ought be using?

Sounds OK, if it's below 950PE it's class 6 and over 950PE it's class 7 radioactive.
The stuff used in ShipWright has to have both high PE and OQ.

But for harvesters could I use power thats got an oq of 23 from the bazaar. Its only 2 cpu as opposed to the 5 I've paid.

Yes, the OQ doesn't matter for powering harvesters/factories. I miss-read OQ for PE in your post, sorry. What's the PE on the Radioactive?

PE is 984

I'd say the reason you were charged 5cpu for this was because of the high OQ and PE combination. The person selling it was probably directing the sale of it to crafters, specifically shipwrights.
All servers have different pricing structures, so 5cpu may be a good price for power on your server. The best thing to do is to ask around and see what fellow guildmates/friends consider to be a good price and to go from there. On my server, I consider 2-2.5 cpu to be a decent price; although I often see power sold for as little as 1 cpu.
For future reference, PE is the only thing that matters for powering structures. A radioactive with a PE of 500 or less will give exactly 1 unit of power for every unit of radioactive used. However, the higher the PE the more power per unit you can get. Basically what it boils down to is that power with higher PE is more efficient and will power your structures longer.
Good luck!

So the "real" price I paid is 2.5 per unit of power used. Not bad than. Thanks.

the formula is PE/500=Power units per Physical units.
so if its 984 that would mean your 100k physical units would be 196,800 power units.
so you paid 2.540650406504065040650406504065 per power unit.
this radioactive must have been meant for crafting, because of the higher price, id try to sell it off and buy some lower priced stuff. but thats me, and i can be very cheap about some things.
you can find it for 2cpu or less. i have seen people selling for 1 credit per POWER unit too, which is a fabulous price, and is very reasonable to the seller since fusions have a high ber (14) so the mining cost is very minimal, usually less than .3cpu (physical units).
