Thread: Give me a reason to buy furniture!!!
Greetings all, I am a Bounty Hunter so forgive me if this post is repetitive as I have not read the other post.
The purpose of this post is to offer a proposal, one that would give me an practical reason to purchase things.
Here is some background on my post:
Let's say I buy a PA Hall (let's leave out the debate as to why I would do that consisdering there are little benifits to it), this question is about "why should I furnish it"?
Well, you might say to make it look nice, and I would agree with you. But is that really a reason to pay $50K to $100K on items that have no functional purpose? I'd rather spend that money on things I need or can actually use, for me that would be Armor, Weapons, Deeds for my PA to sell stuff, maintains cost.
I don't mean to upset anyone with this, but once I account for the storage needs of my ArmorSmith and WeaponSmith's tools and minerals and other items, I have VERY few "Items" left over. As a result, I cannot furnish the place because I need all 250 Items for them.
So, here is my proposal.
Why don't they make the furniture items functional. Meaning, if I buy a Dresser or a End Table, I should be able to "store" things in them! Now, here is the BONUS, the items that are being stored in the Dresser or End Table do not get counted against me when it comes to determining the Maxium Items Stored for the structure.
Now I have a functional reason for buying your items. I can "furnish" a room in my PA Hall for my PA's ArmorSmith that has his Tools and a few Dressers that he can store his stuff in and it is not counted against my max of 250 items. The dresser would count against it, but not the5 (max) Items I put in it.
Everything would have a "functional purpose" (@ no cost to your Item Count)
- Tables could hold up to 5 Guns
- Armors could hold a Set of Armor or Cloths
- Toolchests would hold Tools (Survey devices, weapon repair kits, Etc)
- Sitting in a Chair increases your healing rate (if medic is healing youror you are watching an Entertainer)
This would give me the incentive to buy lots of furniture and at the same time I get a "Beneift" for doing so.
What are your thoughts...
It is not about a luxiury, it is about space.
My Weaponship & armorsmiths take up all the available "item count". I was trying to provide a suggestion that woud make you items more functional.
The reason why you wont see dressers being able to store stuff and not count against your total overall storage is that SOE has admitted that the servers are over loaded with "zillions" of player made stuff...There is a post about this on the Dev forum that I saw regards to servers getting maxed.
Why buy furniture????? There is no reason too except for oneitem. Get a Bed! Just in case you get luckyone nite in the Cantina....Yeeeehawww....LOL
Happy Trails
Therefore if these furniture/containers behave the same if given the choice between a backpack full of 50 items with an armoire standing next to it, and an armoire stuffed with 50 items... the latter is going to cause less database load.
True - except the reality will be a backpack stuffed full of items standing next to an amoire stuffed full of backpacks stuffed full of items....
Yeah an exageration, but it's not really ever going to be either the backpack OR the amoire - it's always going to be both...
The point is if you REPLACE the backpack stuffed with 50 items, with an armoire stuffed with 50 items there's going to be virtually NO CHANGE in terms of database load. Because some players want *both* there's in fact going to be a reduction in database load when they get rid of the ugly useless backpacks.
Keep in mind, Backbacks only allow more items if you are wearing it.
My suggestion you CAP the items feld in the funture to 5 and they would only be allow to hold certain things. Can can put Armor or Cloths in the Dresser, but not the book case (for example).
Aslo, to fix the database issue, decrease the number of items allowed in a place to 70. Then the max items would be350 for a PA Hall. More then now, but not uncontrollable and I have more incentive to buy your items.
The Dev Team needs to think more about "why" in terms of benifits to doing something, rather then just thinking of things that people can do.
My opinion.
Improve the data storage methodology. I cannot believe that simple objects with a lookup object overload a production database server of any sort. I've seen OLD database servers handle millions of queries a minute. Is SOE using this god-awful lithium powered service of these forums to store game data? One wonders.
