Imadork pretty much nailed it. You don't get a waypoint because the point of a survey mission is to find a good mining spot. Although what possible in-game reason a person would want for it being 1024 meters away is beyond me. A buildable spot, sure, but even if you get these missions from NPCs out in the middle of nowhere, you still have to hike a kilometer away before its valid.

You don't have to sample, just be standing on a spot with the required density of the right material. One thing to note: the bug that gives the "resource density too low"when sampling right after a shift also affects survey missions. Your survey tool can show a 95% spot, but the mission still won't complete if the resource is too new. I like to check that the resource is sample-able before following the vein who-knows-where.

Also, the mission difficulty (and thus the payout) is based on your skill with your equipped weapon. If you have the 4th tier skill (pistol IV, rifle IV, unarmed IV, etc) with your weapon, you get better paying missions, although they want a more specific type of resource; "Crystalline Gems" as opposed to just "Metal".

I get these missions from NPCs out in the field all the time. I'll pick them up if I've completed other missions. They go well with Recon missions that take you out far anyway.

It teaches you go methods for finding good concentrations.

Many times I've found great resources/spots and been inclined to pull the harvestors out of storage for it just cause.

I am new to the game so not all that knowledgeable. Ive tried finding the answer to a problem im having in the book and now online... cant find it anywhere. Ive built all of my survey tools but am still confused on doing missions.. when i first started out i did like a few in town missions that were very easy.. now the missions keep giving me a message saying something about the resources are 1000m away from the creator of the mission... but there is no friggin target ... i dont know where to go

and the decription on the mission doesnt help a bit but give you a small story line about the task. Can someone please help. I even ran out of town very far for one task telling me to survey then land form some gas... but WHERE it didnt tell me... it just said go... so i ran out like about 2000m or so collecting gas... apparently for no reason because i came back with a little bit of a lot of gas... but creator of the mission said i still hadnt did the mission... i am so lost.

Thanks in advance... i must go close my eyes now... they are burning from me staying up so late... must sleep.

i think i can help i did a few of those before i stopped making spices

anyway if it says go 1000m away from the mission creator and you got it in town then go 1000m out of town

it will give you a certain type of material say it was steel and you are supposed to find a density of 60% so you go out 1000m from town and survey for steel until you find a spot that is 60% or above of steel

i think all you have to do is survey for it but you might have to sample it

If your goal is the money....

I've heard tell of a method that involves using the local shuttle system. Most towns are more than 1k away from each other or thier borders... so if ya pop a shuttle from say... eisly to espa... you've covered the distance... do a sample in town... pick up another of those missions and return etc etc...

Never tried it myself... my hunter toon is much more capable of making money quickly... (since i can craft uhm.... a class 3 firework right now? heheh) but i hear it can be good money.. <shrug>
