I don't think they're useless exactly, as I think they do give youa slightly less infinite chance of getting a 'Critical Success' on assembly (which is supposed to let you experiment an item beyond your resource's normal cap). But the primary reason they used to be valued was to prevent a critical failure on assembly which would cost you whatever resources you'd just used. As they've done away with that, it has essentually done away with any real need for assembly mods since (as least for everything I've ever done) Great and Amazing successes (on assembly) give the same results.

That's based on my understanding of the crafting system, obviously. I could be wrong. Perhaps someone else can either verify my opinion or tell me if I'm mistaken.

Amazing successes on Assembly do give Experimentation benefits, for some items anyway.

For example, when I experiment on Adv Blaster Power Handlers.

"Good" Assembly + 8 "Amazing" experimentations(by experimenting 8 boxes at once) on effiency gives me -8 SAC, but If I just get 8 "Good" experimentationsI get -7 SAC.

But.... an "Amazing" Assembly + 8 "Good" experimentationson effiency gets me -8 SAC.

I only noticed this a short while ago, and since then I always make sure I take polyon cake before assembling items, as there does seem to be a benefit.

I crafted 2 lightsabers. One was a Great Success on assembly and the other was an Amazing Success on assembly. I put the same 12 pts on each saber when experimenting and they both came out exactly the same.

Well i've only tested this out with ABPH - but it definately makes the difference with those.

Assembly is almost completely worthless now. Unless you are praying for a crtical success, I have been a crafter since about October 2003 and never seen one. An amazing assembly and a great one are exactly the same based on what i craft. An amazing experiment will show definite results while an amazing assembly is negligible. I have never noticed a difference between an amazing succes and great succes on assembly in a long while, basically since component loss was removed when they removed critical failures from crafting assemblies. And there is no difference when making ABPH's for me. I always hit -9 action cost, with an amzaing experimentation i can get one extra point to put in damage or speed though. There is no difference on an amazing assembly and a great one. Havent seen a good assembly in a long while and maybe this is where weapon assembly of 125 comes in handy though.
