Try having it targetted.

You didn't mention whether or not you were standing near the correct crafting station (weapon droid general item, clothing/armor, etc.).

If you were then it's probably a bug or maybe logging will help.

You must be doing something wrong then.

Steps to making an experimented CDEF Pistol.

1) Locate the Weapons, Droids and armor public crafting station in your town. Stand reasonably close to it. Targeting does not matter.

2) Open the Weapons, Droids and Armor crafting tool.

3) Select the CDEF Pistol.

4) Select the minerals you wish to use, paying attention to what matters most. I.E. if you're experimenting for damage, you'll see conductivity plays into this, so pick minerals with high conductivity.

5) Click next. It will ask for confirmation, click yes.

6) A screen will pop up with 3 options - Make Prototype, Make Schematic, Experiment.

7) Click experiment. This will bring you to the experimentation menu, and you can spend your points here.

If this experiment option isn't available, then you are doing something wrong. Either you have no experimentation points on your character to spend, or you aren't next to the right crafting station. Make sure you are next to the crafting station that MATCHES the name of the tool you're using. The Generic crafting tool will NOT work for experimentation.

Good luck

Well I thank you I'll try this when I get home. I was having the same problems, but I've been using the general crafting tool. My friend is an artisan, and, I wonder why he didn't explain this. hmmm

The tool and the station have to be of the same type. When experimenting, you have to go through the whole process, and one of the last steps is to experiment, create a prototype item, or a manufacturing spec. I've seen people frustrated because the expected it to be earlier in the process. I have my setup not confirm crafting options too, and I don't have a problem. I never target the crafting station, but I usually do stand right in front of the thing like I'm making Xerox copies with it or something...

Especialy if have alot of points, it's definetely worth the time to experiment if you plan on using or selling the end product. If you're mass producing items to grind your way up to the next skill level, then it's not worth the time, it adds no xp. But then you should also destroy what you make, as it will be vastly inferior to products made and experimented with.

Side note : Bone armor segments currently use armor experimentation, instead of general crafting experimentation, so don't bother.

BTW, Domestic Arts and Engineering both seem to give you additional general experimentation points. I have 10 points now at Master Artisan.

A simple rule to follow. If you are making items to use or sell, experiment for best results. If you are making items to gain exp, never experiment. You will see a number appear over your crafting tool. That number is a timer on when you can use that tool again. When experimenting, that number can get pretty high. The highest I have had it just making something simple like a soft undershirt, was 71.

Speaking of which. When I make shirts to sell, I do not experiment. I only sell ones with 2+ sockets. The rest get destroyed.
