Thread: Can we have better novice elite profession items?
After I made Master Artisan, I was trying to decide which elite profession I wanted to pursue. I'm mainly a solo casual player, and that affected my choices. So, I looked at the elite proefssions that go off of Artisan, and noticed something disturbing. There are NO good items that can be made by Novices in elite professions, in relation to the difficulty in getting to those levels. As a Master Artisan, or even as Engineering IV, you could make all sorts of nice things that the world needed (bone armor, CDEF weapons, weapon powerups, clothing). But, when you take the much higher step from Artisan to Elite, the schematics you earn don't seem equal to the work put into attaining that next level. Here are some examples:
Novice Architect: This is the exception to my statement except for the fact that Architect is not a profession for a solo gamer, in my opinion. There are lots of little items that look somewhat useful, but the profession as a whole doesn't interest me.
Novice Armorsmith: Mabari armor? That's on the right track, until you see that you need to be (or know) a Novice Tailor to make the Synthetic Cloth needed to make the armor.
Novice Chef: These foods have nothing near the buffs that they should have at this level. Also, to be frank, this doesn't seem like a very interesting trade (no offense to our Chef friends) to a loner like me.
Novice Droid Engineer: Mouse droids... not a bad start there. But, there is a VERY small market for the droids. I'll come back to this...
Novice Merchant: Nothing. You have to sell for this one, so let's leave it out.
Novice Tailor: This is probably the cream of the crop, with Military Travel Packs and Synthetic Cloth. But, still quick-made items.
Novice Weaponsmith: Swords and D18 pistols???
I realize that this may sound like whining, but here is my point. At all of the novice elite professions, I feel like I need to grind to get up to the next level to actually enjoy the profession. It's not until I can make Scout Blasters or R5s or Chitin that all that work will start to pay off, and not just credit wise. After spending 28k+ GCXP to get Novice Droid Engineer, I don't want to grind AGAIN just to get to something useful. That much experience would have mastered me in two branches of the Artisan skill tree with points to spare. If you could register as a Novice Elitist (for lack of a better term) without spending absurd amounts of GCXP, I would be OK with the limited choices that Novices are given. Of course, that's impractical, since everyone would register as all of the Novice professions. But, on the other hand, paying 21K GCXP for the right to make a pistol that is, for the most part, inferior to the ones you were making at Novice Artisan is hard to grasp.
My raving leads to this -- am I alone? Am I missing something? I enjoy taking a long time to build a nice item as opposed to quickly spitting out a crummy one, and getting rewarded for it with higher crafting experience and a better in-game experience. But, it looks like the Novice Elite professions for Artisan are designed to promote further grinding instead of letting the Novice Elitist enjoy the fruits of his/her labors.
*shrug* My 2 credits . . .
I think a novice weaponsmith needs way more thinsg to make at novice level. I woudl say 1 of each kinds of weapons. 1 sword, polearm, 2handed.... 1 pistol rifle carbine.. 1 munition. What we get is 1 melee 1 firearm 1 munition.
Archtechits get a ton of things they can make at a novice level. small factories. a few harvestors. small house? lots of funiture.
not sure about other professions but definatlly need more variiety on novice elite professions. once you reach teh elite profession you can only get XP making those ietms.
35,000 XP on D18's and swords really really sucked... Then I got firearms 1 and blinked and was up another 35K buying tech 1 before I knew what was happining. It became a lot more fun when I had more then 3 things I could make.
