Thread: What do you guys do about reds camping your harvesters?

I swear the game is programmed to make reds spawn around my harvesters. At least half the time I find them lying in the shade of my harvester. I do have rifle 3 in the marksman line and always go out equipped with a decent laser rifle but I don't stand a chance against these creatures. I usually have to go in, check the harvester and grab the resources then speed away, heal, go back in and deposit power and credits then speed away. Maybe I need to work on my rifle skills and make master rifleman? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Kill 'em! Kill, Kill, KILL!

You're on the right track. I agree, it does seem that reds spawn around large concentrations of harvesters and near high concentrations of resources in general.

But HEY! Most of the fun in this game (and most content) is combat-centered. So, why shouldn't us poor arties join in the fun by being lunch for a dragon?

If you don't want to develop your combat skill you havea couple of options. Get a pet or a droid. You can sick 'em on the nearest aggo and hopefully keep it busy long enough for you to do your thing. Note that you can operate and maintain harvesting gear while mounted, for speedy get-away.

The other option is to get a combat-type to accompany you on service runs. Then you can get some combat exp. Make sure you pay your help well, either in trade or cash.

hehe, thanks Berl, I was just gonna ask if there was a better profession for this scenario than rifleman. Commando might be a good choice, it's suppose to do massive damage quickly.

Stay on your vehicle when you are access your harvesters for maitenance. If something aggros you, just take off and come in at another angle.

If you have scout, place a camp and pull out a non-ch pet and have him attack the reds while you access your harvesters. Your pet might die, but you'll get more time to access your harvesters.

Actually, when I have mob problems I usually get a guild mate to play what we call Texas Hold'em. My partner gets close enough to aggro the mob after him on his swoop. Then heherds them up and draws them away from the critical area until I finish business. Then of course, we get the hell out of dodge on our bikes. Lots of fun!

Why don't you come join Drunken Monkey? We're based on Naboo and of course, go everywhere else.

It can become a sort of game, too. There was one time I really needed to pick up a harvester, because there was a resources shift. However, some big ugly drooly thing had decided that my heavy chemical harvester was a good thing to sit next to. This was before vehicles, so I was on foot. I WALKED, very slowly, up to the side of the harvester on the exact opposite side from where ugly drooly was sitting. I started the process of emptying the hopper, and getting ready for shutting down and destroying the harvester. Meanwhile, ugly drooly realizes that I am there, but is trying to get at me THROUGH the harvester, which means I am safe up the the very second that I destroy it. So everything is now ready, and I just have to click once to destroy harvester and return it to my inventory. I carefully turned around, clicked OK, and then immediately started running, with ugly drooly hot on my trail. I lucked out, and managed to escape without a trip to the cloning center. Barely.

It does seem that maskscent works much better when you are going slower. So even though a vehicle gives you a fast getaway, sometimes walking very slowly can also be an option.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

Back in the day most of my deaths were from harvestor campers, as I worked up the pistoleer tree i had less to worry about. The best thing to do is use your ride to draw them after you and have them follow you a ways off then head back.

I found a weird feature on TC when this situation happened, maybe someone else has seen it?

Stupid spinecap soldiers (con red-red-red to me, and aggro) decided to flit merrily around my harvesters. I tried the "sneak up, maybe they won't notice me" approach. They noticed me. Then I tried the "empty everything out real fast, make sure they won't burn down before the next server reset, and run away" approach. Well, "real fast" wasn't fast enough (I've since macroed quite a few harvester commands), so I got incapped, but not deathblowed.

Well, I found out that I could still go through all the normal harvester operations: check status, change resources, remove resource, add maintenance and power, even though I was lying there "comatose" unable to move. So I got them all taken care of, and when the incap wore off I just burst-ran out of there.

Obviously, this won't work when your harvesters are camped by something that deathblows.

I agree with one of the above posters, that mask scent works very well. Of course, it doesn't save me from Desert Demons... but those are on a faction you can make yourself non-KoS to.

Yep, Iharv-maintain from my vehicle. If the Reds are tenaceous [ie., they won't blindly follow me as i kite em away from my harvs], then I try my weak Pistoleer skills on them. If they're Tuskans.. I come back later!
