Is all I need to effectively gather resouces and place harvesters novice artisan?I'm trying not to use many extra points but as a master doctor I'm finding it difficult to find resource suppliers. Also is there a good website for gathering resources.I was checking out a site called swgresources but the site was not working. Does anyone use that sight and know if it is still currently maintained. Thanks for any advice you may be able to provide.

Anyone can place a harvestor, but you need at least novice artisan to use a survey tool.

Is there a way to find out how much of a resource is in a given area? I was soooooo happy to find a 98% concentration of fiberplast on Dantooine untill I went to collect the resources. I left the harvesters on for 3 days, went to get my "score" and of all my harvesters, the one that pulled the most only pulled 46 units. I would not have even bothered had I known that little was there(3 days of upkeep wasted on a harvester that just sat there). So, I ask again.....Is there a way to find out how much of a resource is in a given area?

it's not a matter of 'how much', there's unlimited amounts of resources available at a concentration during a given resource's lifespan.
You just got unlucky enough to have that resource shift out an hour after you dropped your harvesters.
a few tips to avoid this:
1) check your survey tool frequently while on the same planet as your harvesters. if the resource you're mining is listed on the tool, it's still there - you're still getting it.
2) learn the shift cycle for different resources in order to anticipate when they'll shift out/in. this takes a week or two, but is really helpful, I can set down ten harvesters on a patch of nice steel on a certain day and I know I'll only have to check it once to empty the harvesters and then again to empty them and pull them up again.
3) check your harvesters often. don't assume a shift will happen on time (sometimes they don't), and don't assume that since you paid 4 days maintence you can get to the harvester on the 4th day. real life throws curves, and it sucks to lose harvesters to decay because you didn't put enough maintence in them for emergencies.
