He is correct, it takes business III. As you advance to business IV, or take the merchant class, you gain more vendor types. Business III allows you a big ugly box vendor. Business IV should allow you to place a vendor that looks like a bazaar terminal. After you place your house and have the required skills, you should be able to create a vendor from your structure control terminal, then place it like any other furniture. After you're satisfied with its placement, initialize it. Vendors cost a minimal amount of maintenance, nothing compared to even a small home. Once its up you can begin putting items up for sale. Having a vendor also gains you merchant experience.

There is about a 10% XP bonus, and you don't get a lot of traps cluttering up your inventory.

Bingo. Go for it, if you just need to grind XP. Bring lots of low qualitiy hide and bone and meat with you and go nuts.
