Thread: How do you make credits as a Artisan?

Currently I am on Tatooine in the Chilastrsa galaxy. I am a Novice Pisoleer/Master Scout trying my hand at the proffession of Artisan. Making money as a scout is pretty clear. You go on missions and hunt for hide/meat/bones and sell them. Of course I have not found the particular trick in getting the credits really flowing. I sell whatever I hunt on the bazaar. I have not made any contacts as of yet to be a supplier to anybody. Any suggestions?

How do you make money as a artisan? I curremtly am a 2-0-2-4 artisan. I purchased a personal mineral extractor and a wind power generator, but the credits I put into maintenance and power is not worth what I get out of them. I could put my character through a sampling macro, go AFK, and end up with more resources than the extractor. I ended up destroying the wind generator because it was cheaper to buy the power vs. the credits I was putting into maintenance. I really have not found the hot commodity that sells quick which I can make. I at this point can only make CDEF pistol or CDEF rifle, etc. There are to many of those on the bazaar as it is. The resources I have put up on the bazaar do not sell and I have tried to sell some high overall quality stuff. Any suggestions?

just a note on hte personal harvestor..

make sure your wind and mineral harvesters have a high extraction rate.. (i believe it is 8 for wind and 5 for mineral/chemical etc..) other wise you are just throwing your money away.

and if you are going to harvest resources for money make sure they are always of the highest quality you can find..

I personaly make most of my "artisan" creds with powerups. But you know the old saying, "you gotta spend money to make money". Take that novice pistoler out to fort tusken and beat the hell outta them for a while, get yourself a decent 100k loot and the rest is history...

BDarkmist,

Go to Tyrena Cityin Corellia. Get 2 crafting missions worth 1.3k to 1.4k which have south as the final destination (Vreni Island). With the round trip shuttle cost to Vreni Island, you'll make 2k+ in profit along with some crafting XP per trip. Do this until you hit at least Eng 3 or Eng 4. By that time, you'll have enough cash to pay for harvester maintainance.

Since you have Survey 4 you can sample the resources you'll need in about an hour or so (check the latest resource spawns on swgcraft.com for the best resources with high Heat Resistance, Shock Resistance, and Unit Toughness - usually they will be steel and aluminum for the non-ferrous metal requirements). Or, if you still have your other harvesters going have them do the mineral extraction for you. Also, invest in a structure crafting tool with high TE (Tool Effectiveness). 10+ TE will be good enough (theoretical max is 15 but the highest I've seen is 14.97) and it'll help in avoiding the critical failures during crafting.

Start making your own harvesters--don't worry if you can't (yet) hit the maximum of 9 BER for Wind Generators or 4 BER for mineral extractors. The objective right now is to gain XP making your own harvesters and start gathering more resource to use for PRACTICE (which gives an extra 5% to the XP). Do more Tyrena/Vreni Island missions if you need to (especially if you opt to buy power instead). Keep making harvesters using practice mode to get you Engineering 4 and Domestic 4. Once you do this, you should be able to make the max BER harvesters with the right resources. Sell them to other starting Artisans--you don't need to make a lot of profit right away (especially since starting Artisans only have a limited budget). I sold my max BER harvesters in Corellia for 2k each and almost every night the 3 or 4 I drop off at the Bazaar would sell out. Since by that time I was harvesting my own power and resources, I practically stopped doing crafting missions after having at least 20k in the bank (for safety margin).

Also, you can start making Armor and Weapon repair tools. Buy some 999 conductivity copper. In Chilastra, Idoikiam and Onofiide can still be purchased from vendors or Bazaars. With an artisan that has 10 experimentation points, it is quite possible to get the 99.9% rating on the finished product. These sell for 3k to 4k each.

Keep making harvesters until you hit Master Artisan--then make vehicles using your own harvested resources. Check swgcraft.com for the latest resources spawns for Steel and Aluminum that have high Shock Resistances. This will enable you to makeHigh Quality vehicles that can command prices ranging from 20k to 30k each (depending on vehicle type).

I also make weapon powerups that sell for 2k a crate.

The most important tip: Make friends! Most of my repeatcustomersare other newbies I started with at that time (which I gave free bone armor, harvesters, and power-ups to) and people that sent me /tells for special orders or surveying missions since I've been displaying my Master Artisan title. Try to find a nice player city with Research as a specialty and live there (over half of my profits now are from fellow citizens). This will help you in the experimentation. You can also get a 40+ WDG private crafting station that assists in preventing critical failures.

Send me a Private Message with your in-game name so I can contact you if you get stuck. I have a Master Artisan/Novice Weaponsmith in Chilastra.

Good luck,

-D

You could sell little things on the bazaar but they likely wont sell well or produce a large amount of cash. Vehicles can be made at master and customiztion kits for these vehicles. The most money could be made through resources though, selling at 2-3cpuwill still net you a profit compared to what it costs to run your harvesters and if u target a specific market, say weaponsmiths, you can make even more money due to the need for specialized resources. The same may be said about the scout as a means of producing money, if your buyer is a doctor they will need avian meat with high OQ/PE/DR and will buy in bulk especially when it spawns on harder planets like Tatooine or Correlia, wooly hide also sells well as it can be used in the production of ubese shirt which a lot of armoursmiths use to grind and specialised hides for those big armours/clothes.

I make most of my money from the following items: Powerups (lots of them...you just have to know what sells, like Max/Min damage, Attack Speed, etc.), Armor and Weapon repair kits (you'll need to have good quality ones around 97%+ (you make these with a good Conductivity copper that is 970+) and once you hit Master Artisan you can sell Vehicles (do not undercut..I sell mine for 22.5k, 27.5k and 32.5k for Landspeeders, Speederbikes, and Swoops respectively).

Another thing to keep in mind is that your location for your shop where you sell your wares. I have mine in my guild's "Mall" and make pretty decent money. I've made 1 million credits this month alone in sales. Once you start making money you can buy bigger harvestors and begin collecting a large quantity of good quality materials.

Ignore the naysayers.

Armor and Weapon repair kits. Isell well over 500 a week at 3k a piece. Long as they are 97% and up people buy them like candy.
