Thread: Max percentage for resources?

Hi all,

I am fairly new to resource hunting and currently working on Architect on Radiant. The reason I post here is

because I am having a lot of trouble finding resources (low-grade and carb ore specifically) over 58%.

I remember that the percentage was much higher...

Also, I noticed that even though I had this 58% carb ore spot my personal extractors were pulling the

ore at different rates - one at 3 kg/min, and 2 at 1 kg/min. Is this a problem with my extractors?

Is there an art to finding resources? I have literally spent hours searching. It sucks majorly to spend

hours doing something that you don't like to be able to do something you do like.

Is there any way to tell if a resource is going to bottom out? (I mean before placing an extractor)

I don't have more than about 3 hours a day to play SWG and I have other characters as well. I really

don't want to spend it continually roaming planets for resources and I don't have the money to buy them

on the bazaar.

Any help would be great and sorry if this is newbie-ish. I read the FAQ and couldn't see these q's in there.

it takes time to find a good spot, just follow your detector if you run into percentage less than you want, hop on a speeder head out aways and try again, another tactic is dont survey till you see other harvesters. Ores are hard to find in high percentages.

your extractors pulling at different rates is because of the varying quality of the extractors.

Don't forget ore concentration levels are generally low compared to other resources. I'm usually happy to plonk mine down at 50% if I need ore.

I'm fairly new too but in the month I've been playing I have never found an ore source higher than 65%. For that reason NEVER, EVER take survey missions for ore greater than that percentage.

As to an art to finding resources, I don't know but here's what I do:

Do a survey and you'll find the numbers (assuming you find the resource at all) increase in a direction toward the hotspot. I classify this increase with three levels: Slow - the numbers increase by 1% increments, Medium - the numbers increase by 2-3% increments, Fast - the numbers increase greater than 3-4% increments.

If it's slow: head toward the waypoint in a straight line and keep going past it until you've gone twice that distance before surveying again. Since the waypoint is generally in the direction of the hotspot, you'll need to perform far fewer surveys to find it this way. However, if the numbers slowly increase when you're up around 60%, chances are it won't peak higher than about 65-70% from what I've found.

If it's medium: Do the above but only keep going about 1/2 again the distance, not double. When you get around the 65-70%, start doing your surveys at the waypoint to find the hotspot.

If it's fast: If the numbers start off low, you can go 1/2 again the distance but you'll generally want to do your surveys at the waypoint or only a little bit past it. You'll reach the hotspot pretty quickly in general.

On other thing I've discovered: If you don't have a speeder, the fastest way to generate money is by doing delivery missions. If you do have a speeder, here's what you do:

Take 2 900cr survey missions for 70% metal (I don't recommend taking gas and never, ever take ore!) and fly out 1024m and look for the nearest metal with 70%. Finding it will satisfy both missions and make you 1800 credits. You'll almost always find a 70% metal spot within 300m of where you start looking. Mark the spot with a waypoint and go back and forth between the terminal and that waypoint a bunch of times. Each trip nets you 1800cr and can be done in about 4 minutes in an x34 (which includes time to find the right survey missions.) You can make about 20k credits an hour which will keep 10 harvesters going for 3 or 4 days.

As others have pointed out, ore percentage is always crappy-low, which makes it hard for archies, as they need so much of it.

Check swgcraft.com frequently. It'll show how long the various resources on your planet and server have been in cycle. Inorganics like ore most typically spawn in a 9-day cycle. Depending on the extraction rate and hopper size of your harvesters and when you catch the particular spawn, you may be able to pump 9 days worth of maint and power into your harvs and forget about them until the 9 days are up. That's unless you normally pick up the collected resources in the interim. Rename your harvester waypoints to the name of the ore and the dates you placed the harv and the expected despawn date and recheck swgcraft frequently (and help update while your at it)

Make a macro for your toolbar that lets you "almost" automatically survey from your vehicle. Make sure you're using a swoop, as it's the fastest and will save you time. I don't remember it verbatim, but i use something like this:

/cough; (or /wave)
/dismount;
/pause 2;
/survey; (you must the survey tool open and a resource selected before getting on your vehicle!)
/pause 2;
/mount speeder

the cough or wave catches you up with the server to minimize warping.

Move up to larger harvesters as you're able, either by buying or crafting them yourself, and you should be on the way. Good luck!
