Thread: I'm mad at the Apprenticeship System

I've played SWGfor two months now. I had to import it, and I payed 90€ (About 100$) but I don't regret it, because I hoped the game would be great. And usually it is.

But now I find that there isthe BURDEN of the App XP.

Of course, as a theory the App XP was a great idea. But a minute of logical thinking will reveal the OBVIOUS problems of this idea. The App XP system was right for the early days of Star Wars Galaxies, but now is higly outdated. Now, there are more Master Artisans than Novice Artisans. EVERYBODY knows A LOT, and it's SO HARD to get App XP. I've been trying for six days (playing about 6-7 hours a day) and I have 270 App XP. It's SHAMEFUL.

I can't get to Master Artisan because advancement system sucks.

On the other hand, as I said, there are less newbies than ever, and the few newbies that remain are becoming greedy. They DEMAND A FEE for BEING TAUGHT. Have you ever heard of a MASTER paying an APPRENTICE to teach him? That's ludicrous.

The Apprenticeship system is going to collapse in a month or two. It's already almost unbearable...

I agree the system is all turned around, but I have actually seen guys offer 1000 cr to be allowed to teach some one something.

Some one told me once that there was a way to turn faction points in to apprentice exp, but I never heard the details, and it may just be a rumor.

So, if I want to get to Master Artisan, if I ONLY DO WANT to get to Master Artisand, I DO NEED to have a wide range of skills for teaching?

And what if I ONLY WANT TO BE AN ARTISAN? My character HAS NO SKILLS besides Artisanskills, and I don't want to train in anything butArtisan.

That kind of logic kills roleplaying.

You can use faction points to get skill points. Run some reb or imp delivery missions. If you had run missions instead of running around for 7 hours a night, you would have been a master a long time ago.

We're at the same point. If I want to remain neutral? Why must I join a group if I don't want to? Every Master Artisan is a rebel or an imperial?

The advancement system is full of "You-must-do-things-that-you-don't-want-to,-you-don't-need-to-or-you-simply-can't-do"s, as I reckon.

I think the devs did not do a good job on balancing the amount of roleplaying and difficulty, that's all. There should be a better system to advance without using cheap tricks as the Faction Points or nearly-impossible systems as the App XP.

PS: I thought that you couldn't exchange faction points for apprenticeship xp. I thought It was an urban legend. If it's true, it's alarmingly ilogical.

all i ws saying is that your not limited to teaching only artisan skill...if you only want to be an artisan the you are just limiting your self.so complane away, but i think you find the game more enjoyabe if you get a little more than just artisan. and your going to find placing your self in the whole of only one starting class isnt going to make you improve your living/selling/money making and improving of you avater at all. belive me i tryed that it wont work.expand a little. of not if you so chuse but your only doing it to your self. so its up to you realy. and dont get made at me just becouse i gave an answer you dont like..

I'm not getting mad at you, is just that my english is fairly limited and I prefer to express myself with direct sentences. Sorry if I offended you. And I use caps frequently, because in real life my voice actually DOES that up-and-downs when I'm talking

I think that your skills actually DO AFFECT roleplaying. You can't say "I'm sorry, my friend, but combat isn't my trade. I'm no good with a pistol in my hand." if you are a Master Marskman. Well, actually, you CAN say it, but if you're displaying Master Marksman as your title you'll be acting as a total jerk.

I want my character to be just an Artisan. I don't needany Marksman skills. I don't needMedic skills. I can't imagine what to do with Brawler Skills. Sometimes I desire I had some scout skills (principally Harvesting) but I want my character to be a Pure Artisan, and that's how I'll play the game. I'm roleplaying.

Ok, I think you're in reason: I'm just limiting myself. But I do want to roleplay as a "pure Artisan" with no idea of anything apart of his gadgets. And when I see it's barely impossible to get App XP when you want to focus in just ONE profession, I get kind of mad.

well my friend...it is your choise and i respect you story for your avatar..and yes i guess if you are going to only do that you are at a disadvantige.

but the scout thing is a great idea! go for it i have many scout skills, terain nav being one and you will find it very handy.

as far as roleplaying goes you will need to defend your self in this game..bottom line..youll see what im talikg about as you go check your harvesters one day..it will be very clear.

and you do know you can not have a title over your head right?

this is what i have....master articen,novice archtect,novice pike man,pistiol skill's that are hardly worth naming.and merchant.

i still dont agree with skills=roleplaying...its all up to YOU how you define your persion..im mostly a merchant when it comes down to roleplaying..in act, speech, and mood.have been sence novice artisen...:

It took me until Master Ranger to learn how to do get apprentice points.

I never had a problem needing enough, I just didn't have this method, maybe it'll help:

I take brand-new people out hunting and show them how to kill animals, and let them kill the animals and get all the XP while I simply contain the animal with traps. I also teach them the quirks and behavior of the animals we're hunting, what to do, what not to, etc.

Using this method, a brand new novice marksman can go up 3 or 4 boxes in a few hours. And since I'm out in the field teaching them, I can train them right there.

Since I'm a master, I have nowhere else to go but try and help out newbies. It's very fun and the people who you train are intensely loyal and appreciative.

I tried to be an Artisan on Eclipse and got nowhere fast. I found afew differentmaster artisan and asked if there was any way I could help her make stuff and she just said 'no thanks.' I figured I could use her materials to make things for her, give it to her, and this in turn would benefit both of us because I would gain and she would get stuff produced.

No one thought that was a good idea. I quit that server becuase I couldn't get enough materials together and I was already hunter on another server, Starsider.

Perhaps you can find a novice artisan and take her under your wing. Show her how to use multiple tools, how to make stuff well, which ingredients to use, where to look for them, etc. Even if you're giving her materials and you sell the finished product, I'm sure she'll agree. I was LOOKING for people who would help me like that!

I guarantee you will have no problem teaching her stuff then. And you will make darn good friends.

Oh yeah, and one more thing. Grinding up levels seems totally insignificant once you hit master. I was obsessed with it, then I hit master and realized I should have been helping apprentices the whole time.
