Thread: Using sampled Petrochems as fuels for harvesters?
Hi all,
This isn't specifically related to crafting, but it's still On Topic.
I spent a good part of the day sampling 1k+ of Goitwo (Unknown Solid Petrochem Fuel) which I was hoping I could use as fuel for my harvesters. However, when I try to deposit it into them, I get a message saying that I don't have any fuel to deposit.
Am I missing something? Do I need to convert my stocks first before I can use them? I bought some of the same type from the bazaar terminal in tattooine, and it I can deposit those ino the harvesters no problem, but the game doesn't seem to recognise my own stuff as useable.
Can anyone point out where I'm going wrong?
The harvestors use energy, not fuel to operate. You will need to purchase either some form of energy, ie wind energy or solar energy, or you can build a wind generator or solar energy harvestor to harvest energy of your own.
Thanks for your help. Is there any way I can deposit resource items into a bank account? There's something residing in my inventory that the game has deemed as fuel. As far as I know, I have 3917 of Radioactive Energy, but when I open the 'deposit power' menu, I seems to have a possible 6526 units.
I think I need to offload some items and use power of elimination to determine what this hidden stuff might be.
What is the overall quality of the radioactives in your pack? If they're over 500, then it boosts the efficiency of the power, which would give you a higher power available count than the physically available radioactives.
The amount of energy that a radioactive mineral (or any other energy source)will yield is based off it's "Potential Energy" stat. One unit of a PE 500 RA mineral will yield one unit of energy. One unit of a PE 1000 RA mineral will yield two units of energy. So, if you are carrying around 1000 units of a PE 1000 RA mineral, and you open up a harvester to deposit power, it will show that you have 2000 units of energy available for deposit. If you deposit 1000 energy units, your inventory will lose 500 units of the PE 1000 RA mineral.
If you want to get technical, for every PE point above 500, add 5% to the amount of energy one unit will deliver. OQ has nothing to do with the formula, by the way. Don't let the fact that a certain wind energy might have a PE of 13 and an OQ of 500 and still deliver 500 EU. For the purposes of energy calculation, anything below a PE of 500 is treated as having 500 PE rating.
This is why I use RA materials exclusively to power my equipment. Wind energy is usually only found in max concentrations of around 50%. RA materials can be found in much higher concentrations. Wind generators require 1440 credits/RL day to operate, and no power. A PME extracting RA Material costs 720 credits and uses 600 energy per RL day to operate. You can usually find a 70%+ RA material concentration that will yield ore with 700+ PE rating.
In the rare case where a resource shift leaves your planet with no radioactives, you can always save a Wind Generator or two as backups. Note that I have not yet utilized either solar or fusion power. The same logic might not apply. I've heard that fusion power yields energy at greater than a 500 PE rating, but I'm not sure.
