Thread: Way Future Artisan Ability Check it out, it would be Huge

This would be a simple thing to implement and it may be one of the most popular things an Artisan can do. After artisan is otherwise fixed, that is.

Simply: game screenshots turned into mountable in-game pictures for display in homes and PA halls.

The Artisan could sell a 'camera' and 'film' in the form of a 'datadisk.'

Whenever a player uses a loaded camera, the client's computer takes a screenshot minus the HUD (Same view provided by hitting ctrl+shift+h).

The photo is saved on the same SWG server that holds the client's inventory items.

Handing the 'film' over to an Artisan allows them access to the photo. The artisan can then save the photo as a crafting item just like hides or dantooine berries.

They then put the photo and a frame together and produce a framed photo.

The framed photo - of ATSTs exploding, the moons over Dathomir, or just a bunch of friends hanging out in the cantina, is then an in-game item that can be placed on a wall just like photos and paintings in in-game buildings.

The two-dimensional photo would take up some server space because it's unique, but I think this idea is worth a shot.

I mentioned this some time ago, but thought I'd throw it back up here. I would pay a LOT to have in-game pictures of memorablemoments in my PA.

If you like this, please kick it up to your correspondent and she can give it to the Devs for consideration.

I can almost gaurentee that this will never be implemented for technical reasons. The amount of storage, bandwidth, and processing power that the servers would have to undertake to do this is very large.

The server would have to store such pictures, that alone would skyrocket space usage. It would have to FIND which pictures belonged to you anytime someone caused your building to load. Lastly, it would have to stream this picture to every single client that was in your house at a given time. Even with aggressive caching of the pictures, you can see how this could get way out of control when multiplied by many many users.

Anyone who's played Counter-Strike knows that this was implemented with custom graffiti sprays, and is problematic at best in that game. That was with a maximum of 32 users per server...

Granted, you did say "way future" so I apologize if I'm preaching to the choir. I couldn't discern if you chose that phrase because you were aware of the technical limitations, or because you were wanting other things to have priority in the developers schedule.
