Thread: Survey Mission What determines resource type

Greetings all,

Does anyone know what determines which resources are given for Survey Missions?

When I use the Artisan Terminal and search Survey Missions I only see searches for Metal, Ore and Gas. Another person I know has indicated usually seeing Chemicals.

Since I usually carry around all 7 surveyors I tried putting all but the Flora and Wind surveyor in the bank and trying the mission terminal, but got the same Metal, Ore, Gas results.

Any info is appreciated since I would prefer searching for Flora type resources.

Thanks.

Good luck. I have never seen a Flora resource show up, and I've done dozens (and dozens) of survey missions. I've only seen Mineral, Gas, and Chemical missions show up.

Found a sweet spot SE of Coronet (Chilastra), with 7(!) different resources all 70%+, all 1025M from the mission terminals.

It's random - you'll get mineral, chemical, inert gas, reactive gas and radioactive randomly with random mission pay-outs. If you don't like the four or five shown, just hit refresh to generate another set until you get what you want.

Tip: locate a place more than 1024m from the mission that has a high concentration of mineral/gas/chemical (like > 80%) and keep a waypoint to it. Go back to the terminal and refresh the missions until you get 2 that are looking for that type of resource that pay well. Go out, survey, get paid, repeat. Great way to make quick money.

Thanks all for the replies. I was hoping something would be available besides from the mineral, gas and chem survey tools, but I guess not.

And after doing what seems like hundreds and hundreds of survey missions with lots and lots of refreshes to make sure I got the max 900 credit every time, I still only get metal, ore and gas. So I must be cursed into never seeing radioactive or chem ones. No big deal since can usually find gas or metal deposits over 70% pretty easily.

Your level actually does have some affect on the missions, but I'm not sure what class makes the difference. I have heard rumors that it is based on exactly the same thing that determines combat missions (ie skill with your current weapon), but Iam not sure about that at all.How high you are in crafting professions may have some effect, but I have definitely noticed that both my mission requirements and payouthave becomemuch higher as I have progressed in levels. I am almost master architect, but only a novice gunslinger, and since my missions tend to pay upwards of 1.6k, I would guess that crafting skills affects it to a large degree.

I ran some tests when Survey Missions first came out and found that survey mission "difficulty" varies according to current weapon skill. SInce my new template is Ranger/Pistoleer/Surveyor I have a high weapon skill now and get survey missions in the 2k range. Of course they require a ghigher concentration of resource.

I don't run survey missions often, since I refuse to do anything that even smells like grinding -- and to me, a ranger/pistoleer running Artisan missions is grinding for cash. Artisan missions are for Artisans. I stick to destroy and explore missions.

Anyway, equip a good weapon -- if you have any weapon skill at all then the best you have for that skill -- and you will see better missions. This is wrong, of course -- it should depend on your survey skill.
