Thread: Surveying Question!
Just a quick question!
When surveying and you get the msg saying u did not find a sample of *mineral* does that mean you need to move somewhere else because it has run out or do you keep trying in the same place?
Cheers
That means in your area of surveying, example 64M or whatever you have your tool set at, there is not a single trace of the resource you are looking for. You need to move and try again til it shows up and then you can track down the highest source to put your harvesters or sample.

here is another noob question:
when i go to survey, it gives me a list of resouces which i can survey....is there any way to change or expand that list?
for example i am looking to surveyOwito steel, however it is not on my list of survey metals....what can be done to change this, do i need to level my survey higher? make/get a better mineral survey device?

Not sure what you're asking here. If you mean that, when you are sampling and you get a message that "You failed to find any XXXXX", then no. You just stick with it. Even with Survey IV you will not retrieve resources 100% of the time. No need to move, you'll eventually dig some up.
If you mean that you actually "Survey" for a resource, and it says "Resource not located", then the first poster's correct. It just means you need to keep moving around and surveying until the tool finds what you are looking for within it's survey range. Then you just keep surveying and moving toward the highest concentration until you find the sweet spot ![]()
If a resource does not appear on your survey tool, it means that the resource is not available on that planet, at that given time. Different resources are available on different planets, so if you REALLY need that specific resource, you can planet-hop, and fire up your survey tool as soon as you get to the next star port. You will see a list of all the available resources for the planet you are on. If your resource is not there, go to another planet. BUT.. ( and there's always a but.. ) there are some resources that are not available on ANY planet at a given time. In that case, the only recourse it to wait a few days for the resources to 'shift', and do the planet-hop dance again. Resources are *supposed* to shift every 5-8 days, and they do not all shift on the same day.
So.. how do you find the resource you need? The planet-hop boogie can get expensive for a n00b. THere are a couple of options for you.. make friends on different planets. Trade information about what is available on each other's planet. Another option is the following website: http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/~swgcraft/currentresources.php
This is a database that lists which resources are available on the planets. It is NOT 100%, but it is a really good way to quick-check without the frequent flyer miles.
Best of luck, and /tell Strebor on Shadowfire for a Tatooine resource list, anytime.
