I have a vendor which isn't showing up on the overhead (ctrl-m) map. I've had a friend come by the shop and he also said the vendor isn't showing up.

I've initialized the vendor and have about 5 items for sale and have a few days of maintanence in it. I'm Master Artisan. Any reason the vendor wouldn't be showing up on the overhead map?

You need Advertising III (Merchant Skill)to get on the map.

I'm talking about the overhead map where buildings show up in green and vendors close to you are written across the building.NOT the planetary map.

Please tell me you don't need Merchant skills for that. Otherwise whats the point of having vendors?

Yes you need Advertising III to get the vendor to show up on both maps.

Vendors are for selling stuff. To advertise your vendor you can use the sign on your building(s)/factory(s)/harvestor(s), word of mouth, sell items with advertisments in the name and/or description on the bazzar, shout advertisments in places players gather, post your vendor info on the forums, advertise on SWG internet web pages, partner with other players, and/or get merchant skills.
