I couldn't see anything about this in any of your stickies (great job with them, by the way), so I apologise if you're sick to death of people asking this...
I'm just starting out a character as an Artisan (hopefully on way to Weaponsmith) and I was wondering about which combat profession might be the best to master to go along with it.
It's a harsh galaxy for a poor surveying artisan, so you need to be able to take care of yourself out there.
I realise that a lot of this might come down to personal preference, but I wondered if anyone had any insights.
I'm considering between Swordsman and Rifleman, but I'm open to any suggestions.
Thanks for your help

Depends on what you're actually aiming for. If you want to go out and do some hunting, rifleman is a perfect choice. Great weapons available, defences are fine, but rifleman works best when you choose the fight.
So if you go hunting, you can get the best of rifleman, use concealment shot and all and perhaps kill without even be detected.
If your priority is defence against beasts in the wilderness, fencer or TK are probably the way to go. A good ammount of melee and ranged defence and melee toughness added give good survivability when already drawn into the fight. Damage output suffers a bit, flexibility is much higher.

I'm personally fond of TKM.
Any of the basic combat profs make a good partner to crafting. I've done pistoleer as well with good results.

Not to burst your bubble but, you need some money to start out as crafter, so best thing would probably to get in some money via missions and selling loot, untill you have enough money to get going, and while you rack in money, go find resources, you never know what you might need in 2 months.
I have TKM and it's nice... only tried pistoleer other then TKM.
