I usually visit the website swg.allakhazam.com to find profession guides. There are many different websites available with SWG profession guides. However, I have found allakhazam to be very useful. There is a pretty good guide at http://swg.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=176. This guide has a decent macro for getting surveying xp. I had to tweak it a little bit to get the timing right though. I hope this helps.

I did this last night and made a little macro to help me. Once you have done your survey and got a nice 90+% source, I used the following:
Macro Name sample
/sample;
/pause 10;
/stand;
/pause 21; (added the extra 1 second to allow for lag etc.)
/macro sample;
Then just leaveit going. I was actually grinding smuggler / slicing whilst doing this last night. The benefit of doing this, is that if u hit a concentrated source, it will just ignore it and carry on again.
Came back a few hours later and I am now at Survey 4

Grinding lvl 4 Surveying is the worst, I left it on over night and it only went half way through the bar 0_o

Servers reset at 4am PST
Easiest place to survey is in starports, so you aren't attacked.
Just leave a macro running in a starport before you go to class/work, and you should be good when you get back.

By the way an easy way of speeding up ur afk is to get ur action buffed if u have a friendly guild doc. I usually keep a spare action buff on my doc char so I can help out dancer and guildees tumbling for other guildees anyway. It means u can reduce the pause down to just enough to handle the parts of the macro. Cities are now a adangerous play to grind afk. Safest are ppl grinding ranger camping or player metropilis.
