Thread: I was wondering about Surveying tapes and skill levels

Could someone help answer my question? I have level 3 surveying with no more skill points to use, but i've got +15 surveying CA, would that bump me skill into level 4 surveying or would i need another +10 worth of surveying tape/s for that to happen?

Well, I suppose it depends on what you're trying to get.
Survey 4 adds +25 to your survey skill, so to get the same increased sample amounts of the box, you'd need a full +25 in skill tapes. But I'm not 100% sure what the cutoff is for the extended range. You can try equipping your +15 tape, then see if you can increase the survey range on your tools.
You can also get the Force sensitive skills that increase survey. Each box gives +5, and only takes 1 skill point, so it's a little cheaper as far as skill points are concerned, although much harder gaining all the needed xp.
There's also Chandad, a food that increases your survey skill. You can hit +10 pretty easily on it, even without an additive, +15 or so with an additive.

Thanks for the reply, all i want is just the surveying range since i have no more points to work with on my template. I'm afraid i am not following the Jedi route as others are so the "Force" crafting is not a option for me.

FYI force surveying do not come under the force crafting tree, it belongs to heighten senses tree

cdouldnt find an exact answer anywhere for this but here seemed more appropriate than making a new thread, but its possible to get the extra range with survey 4 and the force sensitive survey tree (+20) but is all the +20 needed? as im looking to get this range with tapes if possible, and was wondering what number to aim for?

On a similar line, I know you can survey with only the FS mods, has anyone tried to get the tapes and get survey with only tapes? I am going MRifle and MCM, which leaves 4 free points, was thinking that I would either invest in survey FS or in tapes so that I can find spawns for my own harvs.

You still need Novice Artisan for the /survey ability. All the +survey skill mods in the galaxy won't help you if you don't have that. I suppose it's possible that the FS survey line also grants that ability, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.
