Thread: Order of resources listed in survey device and harvester

Does the order of resources shown in the survey device or harvester, when changing resource, mean anything at all or is it totally random. Someone once said (can't locate thread) that the order of resources shown in the harvestor when changing resources shows which will shift first and which are new. The ones at the top being new and old ones at bottom. Well yesterday I placed a heavy mining installation and it showeda low grade ore that was so new it still couldnt be hand sampled, only three from the bottom of the list with twelve above it. A new radioactive that only showed up that morning as also towards the bottom of the list. I was wondering if the list was reversed but I remember seeing some new resources at the top and old ones close to the new ones at the bottom.

Today I noticed that my survey device showed this radioactive at the top and it just showed up yesterday morning.

Well does anyone know if there is any significance to the order of resources shown in the survey tool or harvestor list when changing resources?

There is no significance.

I don't know about the harvester resource-change screen. Will have to look into that.

Here's how it works for the survey device (hope I can explain this clearly): In the resource-tree display, the branch within a group of branches with the most recently appeared resource will sort to the top. The exception to this is resources that have appeared recently but can't be sampled yet; from what I've seen these always sort to the bottom of their branch.

It can be helpful for spotting new resources if you're checking a planet every day or so. Not so useful if you haven't checked in a while.

Here's an example:

There are 6 mineral resources on a planet that appeared in this order from oldest to newest:
Duralloy Steel
Ostrine Carbonate Ore
Titanium Aluminum
Vertex Crystalline Gemstone
Lidium Extrusive Ore
Axidite Iron

They'll display in this order in the survey tool:
Axidite Iron
Duralloy Steel
Titanium Aluminum
Lidium Extrusive Ore
Ostrine Carbonate Ore
Vertex Crystalline Gemstone

All the metals come first because the newest mineral is a metal, with the ferrous metals coming before the non-ferrous. The ores came next because the second newest mineral was an ore.

If tomorrow a Chanlon Intrusive Ore were to become available on the planet,in the survey device it would first appear immediately below theLidium, then once it could be sampled, the ores would move to the top with the igneous ores first (Chanlon then Lidium) followed by the Ostrine.

Interesting, I'll have to check that. Thanks.

I checked the change-resource screen this evening on a few of my harvesters.

Apart from resources which couldn't be hand sampled yet,all resourceswere listed in the order theyappeared with newest sorted to the top. The un-sampleable resources were always at the bottom.
