Once you work your way upthe Surveyor branchyou will be able cover larger areas with your surveying tool making it easier to track down higher densityresources to sample. This will cut back on the time Alot. But you will still need to do quite a bit of walking even once you are at Surveyor IV... until mounts come out that is . You can try www.swgcraft.com. They try to list the resources currently available on any given server. I have found it to be somewhat unreliable though so I just do all my own work.

I work with about three other people, each with varying goals and ideals. We all look for specific resources, but since there are three of us and we're fairly close as a group, we just tell each other when we find something good. Remember, being a team means that you have that many more people to do the work. lol.
