How often do resources change? is it random??

I had a nice spot for desh copper on naboo yesterday (first day of the resource). checked this morning and it's gone already...

is this common?

I had the same thing happen. I found a sweet 90% steel spot on Dantooine, so I set up the harvester. Came back with my artisan character and found that it must have shifted within an hour of my placement. It happens. This keeps surveyors in demand, while preventing us from having permanent clusters of mining installations.

I'm not sure how long they stay for, but www.swgcraft.com has great resources for artisans, including a list of resources. You can also find a list at www.swgcenter.com where you can list specific planets and galaxies.
