Thread: Artisan Surveying Mission Rewards?
Alright, here's my issue:
I used to do some crafting with my first character, before I decided to make him an all-combat character. I set up harvesters, and in order to pay maintenance fees, I did surveying missions.
Initially, the rewards were low (900 max), but eventually they increased (1500+). At the point at which I started disbanding artisan skills, my character had Engineering 4, Domestic Arts 1, and Surveying 4.
I have since created a new all-artisan character to satisfy my crafting itch. This character is advancing through the Tailor line, and has Engineering 2, Domestic Arts 4, Business 4, and Surveying 4.
Like before, I've been doing surveying missions to help cut my losses. However, at this point (farther along than my other character was), I have yet to "unlock" the higher-paying missions, and it's really causing me a lot of trouble.
I amasking if somebody on these boards knows what is required of my character to "unlock" the 1500+ reward surveying missions. Have I just not done enough of the missions yet to do so? Do I have to do a certain amount of Ore, Metal, and Gas missions? I have been focusing almost entirely on Gas missions, although I have done at least one Metal and Ore in the past.
My apologies if this question has already been answered, however I did run a search prior to posting. Your assistance is much appreciated!

For reason known only to the devs, the mission difficulty and payout for survey missions are based on your skill with your equipped weapon. If you have novice in an elite combat class (rifleman, pistoleer, tka, maybe commando and smuggler too), when you get the mission list while holding your rifle/pistol/bare hands (depending on the combat class), you get the better paying missions. So if you are pure artisan (or artisan and a support class), you are stuck with the 900 credit max. This design flaw is in the list of artisan issues Bianca has stickied at the top of the forum (it's number 7).
Now, that being said, I have occasionally gotten the higher-paying missions from NPCs. While doing upkeep on my harvesters, I ran into a gungan band with some blue-circle guys (the NPCs you can get missions from), and since I had just found a 70% spot of metal, I figured I'd get something, maybe luck outwith an easy crafting mission. Well, the gungan gave me a 1200 credit mission to find a 60% spot of some specific gemstone type. Fortunately, a high concentration was near one of the harvesters I hit on my rounds, so it paid off nicely.
Oh my...
Yes, that is quite a flaw.
Looks like theyleft intoo much of the originalcoding from the regular mission terminals when they created the artisan/explorer/entertainer ones.
Looks like progressing through the marksman ranks will jump a few spots in my priority list.
I appreciate your help.

Now that the devs have fixed the difficulty level of missions displayed when you are in a group, it is now possible to get the high paying artisan missions if you have no weapon equipped but are grouped with good pet. I have a small amount of Creature Handler skills but no combat skills. I own a greater sludge panther which I pretty much just use for protection in case something jumps me while I'm out surveying for medical resources. When I'm grouped with him, I am now able to see the 1800c missions. I can't tell you how happy this made me yesterday!!!

It's not novice in an elite combat class it's level 4 in a basic combat class
Still silly
If you have the spare skill points getting up to level 4 pistol is very easy
Howdy
To my suprisement last nite I came across 2000+ credit survey missions. I was on I think Dath with some PA friends and stopped at theartisanmission terminal by theStar Port before we headed back to Coronet. Not sure because I was in a grp or not but there were specificmineral/gasSurvey Missions that were paying out pretty well. I grabbed 2 and completed them later. Then at the Coronet Artisan Mission terminal there was the same 900cr maxed ones...... Not sure if only this planet did this but will look tonite.
Happy Trails

I knew it was one of those, but couldn't remember the results of the testing people did a while back. It figures with a 50/50 shot, I'm still wrong 80 percent of the time. ![]()
And that grouping "fix" sounds like it might be an acceptable workaround. Do you know if you get the 1k+ missions with a non-CH pet? Or maybe I'll try hitting the harder planets, it sounds like the survey missions are scaling harder there too, unless it was because of the group. Or maybe I'll just find some tough combat types, ask to group with three or four of them, grab two missions, then leave the group.
