my question is what benefit do i get from higher surveying skill other then range?

i ask becuses id like to free up some skill points but i still need to do surveying just hoping i can drop it to novice and still be good enought

greater range

more per sample (not needed really since 1 unit from a sample is all you need to check stats)

but the higher range sure does help alot.

When I dropped (for a time) from Survey 4 to no Survey, I found that I also needed a higher concentration area to even have the ability to sample. So...you'll need a better vein to be able to sample, which will be a lot harder to find 'cause you won't have the range . I'm still working on tweaking my skill points to try to get Survey 4, but I'd say Survey 2 is reasonably tolerable to keep you from many extra spending hours trying to locate a good spot for a resource.
