Can someone alnswer a questions for me about resources? When do resources spawn and despawn? I mean, do the new ones show up on the server at a given time of the day, like right after boot, or can they appear at any point? Same with despawning resources. I'm asking because I'm a DE and I'm looking to collect some particular resources and I'm wondering if stepping outside my house, opening the mineral survey tool, and checking to see what's listed in it is enough. Anything I see in a given survey tool is anything that's avaiable on that planet at that moment, right? If I wanted to get on a spawn as early as possible should I be checking more than once a day?
Thanks
Chris

Well, I logged in about an hour after the boot, nothing had changed. 5 hours later the same day it had, then it didnt change again until after the next boot.
Not sure truly how it is though

To the best of my knowledge resources can spawn and de-spawn at any point in the day. I know for a fact that it's not just at re-boot. I've checked all the resources, then 1-2 hours later re-checked and things had shifted.
Also, you're correct. If you open the tool on a planet, everything that's on the planet will be listed.

I've had a resource despawn while I was sampling it, so it's definitely not at boot time. From my experience spawns/despawns happen at random times, but in batches. Minimum time for an inorganic resource to hang around seems to be about five days. Maximum seems to be around ten. Just popping outside and opening up your survey tool occasionally is all you need to do to see if any new resources have spawned/despawned. Also check out www.swgcraft.com. The frequency with which you check for new spawns will affect how long you can mine them for. If you check on average once a day, then on average you'll be able to mine them for about 7 days (average time a resource hangs about = approx. 7.5 days, average amount of time a resource has been around before you find out about it = approx. 12 hours). If you check every hour this rises to about 7.48 days.

Also remember Murphys Law. No matter how often you check, the resource will spawn 5 minutes after you make your last check of the day. Or is it just me?

Or it despawns 1 hour after you get a harvester on it, so you winde up with only 600 units of the resource!

I jinxed myself typing this. Had 2 x BER 4 harvestors on a spot. Sunday night I checked it, still there, knew it was getting close to moving, but I wanted to get every drop of this iron. Collected, added power+maintainance. Last night checked. It had shifted, no surprise. Open the hopper to collect what it had gotten before the shift. 3 units in one, 1 unit in the other. Must have shifted before I even got on my swoop.

Some resources seem to linger longer than others(the floras for example), but all resources can spawn or despawn at any moment. They can also appear or disappear on one planet before they appear or disappear on another planet.
When a specific resource (e.g., Triloosian) appears in a galaxy, it has the same stats on every planet that gets it.
If you want to keep track of good new resources, bookmark SWGCRAFT.COM, a cooperatively maintained all-server database. If you find something yourself, you can update SWGCRAFT.COM too!
