Yeah youve got the idea. As for XP, lately i believe its been bugged for factories (can anyone confirm this as true or not?). But you used to get some xp for item created in a factory.

Essentially you drop the deed somewhere, pay maintenance and power to it. Then you can load a schematic into it (only one at a time). There is an ingredient hopper, and a readout (kinda another status window) that tells you the required resources, which much be identical to the schematic (not just copper i mean Hedite Polysteel Copper yeah that specific). Drop the ingredients into the hopper and start the factory. Youll get an email about resources running out and/or another telling you it has finished and crafted X amount of items. There are various types of factories just like the different crafting devices so make sure you know what your gonna make and get the right factory.
