Does anyone know if there is an advantage to NOT surverying at Max Range or with Max Points?

When I survey I usually choose the max settings I'm allowed then run toward and past the Highest concentration, then survey again.

I was just wondering if there was a benifiet to say only using 2 survey points.. or using a smaller survey range, are these results any more accurate?

Lets say I get a grouping of 66% results on a Max range and points Survey.. is there a chance that I might find greater results if I survey again with a smaller area..

LOL I know these are redundant questions.. but I just wanted to make sure my question was explained.

You should use max settings, it saves you time.

My understanding is that a spot has a certain percentage locked in until resources shift. So a spot with 50% will be a spot with 50% to everyone. With max settings, you will find it quicker is all. Then resources shift and you get to run around again looking for something else worth sampling

Also, your method sounds good. I usually have my tool set to max, Isurvey and then run in the direction of the highest concentration. Thenwhile I am still running, as I get tothat spot I hit survey again and follow that and repeat until I converge on the best spot in the area.

I wanted to know the advantages of surveying 4 over surveying 1 , besides the chance to get a sample , the amount, and range. If i have surveying 1 or 2 , can i get by finding the best resources? For higher end resources do i need surveying 4 to sample and find them? I was thinking of freeing up some pts from surveying to use elsewhere and wanted to know what most people are doing. Could i just use surveying 1 and if i fail to collect the resource , just keep trying ? Thanks for any feedback.

The only benefits I've seen are:

1) Higher scan range; handy when surveying from a mount/vehicle since you don't have to do the /dismount; /survey; /mount shuffle as often. Also, since the waypoint is farther away, your mind has more time to regen so you don't have to worry as much about draining the pool.

2) More units obtained when sampling.

3) Able to sample on smaller concentrations without getting "You only find trace amounts".

Personally, I like the 192m range of survey III, since that gives my mind time to regen fully when I'm mounted.

Some people don't mind the disadvantage to lower survey skills since they still have the fundamental ability to survey. Some plain hate the survey every two steps method. I'd recommend you try it out, drop the survey skills you intend to free up the points you need but don't train the new skills until you've tried out the lower survey skills. If you really hate it you can relearn or if it seems bearable you can go ahead and train the skills you needed the points for.

The other day when I was wondering around outside of Coronet Starport I seen a AFK surveyor, they must have been using a special macro because every time they sampled the resource it did it 4 times at once. I was wondering if anyone knows of this macro and if its even allowed to be used.

Bart: Isnt that the wrong way?
Homer: Yes but faster.

You were probably seeing a visual glitch, as there is not a way to sample faster than the game allows unless a new bug recenly crept it's way in the game.

The macro being used is fine as long as it's not being used for AFK macroeing.

Is afk macroing now an exploit? If so that is really sad cause a LOT of people run macros while AFK

Um, YES.

AFK Macroing is the Bad Macroing.

Please don't post false information. Sony clearly state that a player is perfectly able to use a macro afk in game.

You may not like it - but it is not 'bad'. The only thing specifically banned is the use of 3rd party macros and, obviously, macros that facilitate some other exploit.

It is possible to multi-sample. If you are using a macro to survey and sample...you leave for a bit, then you come back, you might have several of the text screens asking if you want to try to get 'the big sample'. If oyu click yes on all of them, you will not only sample at your normal interval, but at a normal interval to each time you clicked yes. This will stop though once your HAM drains and you have to rest.
