I had a question: Does the quality of a players surveying skill have any bearing on the efficiency of his harvesters? IE, If I have surveying IV and I plant a harvester, does it produce any more resources than someone with little or no surveying skill who plants a harvester in the same location? Not so much a medic question, but something I was wondering as I decide whether I want to keep my artisan skills. Thanks in advance.

Nope, your surveying skill in no way effects how good you harvestors do, someone can even go out. without even having any artisan skill, look for a place where other people have put alot of havestors (good indication that there is a good resource there) and plant it there, with out even surveying or anything, and produce the same results as the master artisan who planted a havestor right next to him has.

Can anyone in game perform surveying and can anyone in game use a harvester? I realize not everyone can craft those, but can they be purchased and used? Thanks

Surveying is an artisan skill.

Anyone can operator a harvestor but you want someone to survey a good location for planting it.

I've given up almost all my artisan skills in favor of my Ranger and Pistoleer training. However, I still carry around harvesters. What I've taken to doing is surveying when I find a large collection of harvesters in an area, to find out what's there, and then setting down a harvester if I find something worthwhile. I don't scan for specific things, except for reactive gas, as I want my favorite Master Weaponsmith to be able to experiment with DX2s.

Do your harvesters harvest more depending on your serveying skill or does it just determine what size harvesters we can place?? I grinded out the other 3 trees in like 1.5 hours but serveying is killing me!!!! Any tips???

Neither.

Harvesters harvest at a fixed rate and anyone can place any size harvester.

Your surveying skill determines how large an area your survey covers.

Be sure to reset the scanning area on each tool every time you gain a box of skill.

Best tip for getting harvesting xp is to find a 90%+ concentration of something and just start digging.
