Can anyone explain to me the benefit of the optional components are when used in the weapon repair kits? For example without the optional components in the weapon repair kit I loose about 100-150 overall condition per repair. If I were to use these components in the repair tool, what will the end result be?

Thanks

I finally made master artisan and made one with the components (except droid storage compartment) and only lost 50 off my initial value of 1000.

About a week ago there was a thread about repair tools. Someone did some extensive testing and IIRC the answer was that the optional components added nothing to the effectiveness of the tool. Essentially you have a 1 in 5 chance of doing significant damage to your weapon whether you put the components in or not.

How are you losing 150cr per tool? Even at 5 cr per unit of metal you can make a 100% profit when you sell them for 150. On some planets I've sold them for 800 cr (I try never to undercut the going price by too much). Personally I make the tools out of the cheapest metal I can find.I've never noticed any difference in the results when I use them. I've got anACRID scout blaster I bought on the bazaar that was at 150 out of 1000, I used my repair tool and it went to 950/950. After a week of steady use and repair it is now at 750/750.

Whoah...I never saw that thread. It means I've been wasting all my time putting out repair tools with all optional components! I even put one at the bazaar, now I see it was hugely overpriced...I will have to find this experimentation thread. Thanks for the info.

Fishlore,

A repair will always lower the durability of an item. The question is how much and that seems to not be tied to the quality of the tool or as far as I can tell from the skill level of the user. Eventually the weapon will become so worn out that you can't repair it. I've seen enough good quality weapons whose only problem is a low durability (like my scout blaster at 125/1000) that I am seriously considering buying them, repairing them and reselling them. I figure there are plenty of newer players who would appreciatea low price on a decent weapon that will allow them to earn money for one in better shape.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I meant my tool removed 150 condition points from the weapon. It seemed like the first one brought it down to 950/950 then the next time it went to 800/800. Is this subtraction random, or does it increase as you repair the weapon more?

I have never sold one of them before.
