I thought that being a smuggler/merchant would be a cool character to make. But man i just don't get it. I was reading all your post about Macros, grinding, and sampling and it all seems to be in a different language. I realized i needed general crafting exp to become a merchant. But i also realize i have to create goods to sell. I thought getting into smuggling and opening mine own shop would be fun so here is the question. How do i go about creating items to sell in my shop? (I want to sell Firearms and resources and maybe SPICE, if u can even do that)
Ya i know its a stupid question but I really need some insight into this proffession because i just don't get it.

Simple: You use crafting tools to create items. ![]()
Once you have a residence (a house), and enough Business levels, you can create vendors inside them to sell goods that you create with your crafting tools. If you can't build a house through getting to be an architect, find someone that will sell you a residence.
What is for sale in the Bazaar all depends on what people in that area have found and put up for sale. Nobody willing to part with any metal? then there's no metal in the bazaar. The SWG economy is totally player driven, there are no NPC shopkeepers providing items or resources.
If you need metal, use your Mineral Survey Device to survey for metals. Different metals are available on different planets, and there is no guarantee there is any trace of a particular metal near your current location. They move around though, so don't count on one being in the same place the next day. Anyone know how often that happens now? I can't tell.
Anyway, once you've tracked down a nice concentration of your chosen metal, you use the device to take a sample. Essentially, this is mining on a very small scale. If you found a deposit 75%-95% you'll usually get 4-5 resource units at a time, when you find some (when you're a novice, better survey skills equals more resources pers sample). you don't find units each time you sample, so keep doing it for a while.
Once you have the resources you want, build your item using the General Crafting Tool, or a specialized crafting tool, if you have one.
That's the basics. There are lots of useful guides on crafting and such in the guides forum as well.

Get yourself a survey tool of any kind. Metal, Chem, Gas, etc. These are the mainstay of any engineering profession. Take samples and learn what metals are good / bad. You can sell what you get on the bazzar, or use it.
Have a buddy create you a generic crafting tool and use it to create generic items.
That should get you started gaining xp until you get to novice DE.
Good Luck to ya!
Welcome to the world of Artisan. You've chosen a long and difficult path, and being a DE isn't going to help that. . . at least not till they fix the DE profession. However, if you're not a power gamer, they may have the profession fixed by the time you get there.
If you're on the Chilastra server, send me a /tell or an in-game email and I'll be happy to create a GCT (general crafting tool), and a set of survey tools for you.
