Does anyone have any tips for surveying. I can never seem to find resources and if i do it's incredibly small amounts.

Most of the time density of resource will be ~40% if im lucky will find 50-60%. Are there specific places i should be looking for certain resources? at the moment i just try random places in and outside of cities surveying all the different materials until i find one thats in the area.
