Stealingsilver,

Resources shift around and irregular intervals. This is deliberate. You're going to need to use your survey tools to locate resource concentrations. If you started as an artisan, you should have the mineral and flora survey tools as part of your starting inventory.

Surveying and sampling generate survey xp. Hand sampling is a very slow way to gather resources, but it's about the best you can do when just starting out. I'd also purchase the novice scout skill so you can harvest animal resources.

Once you have some resources in your inventory, start cranking out the easy items. I've probably made a few hundred bofa treats! Crafting these simple items gives you the general crafting xp. You may even be able to sell some of your simple clothing for a couple hundred credits on the bazaar.

Run artisan crafting missions. These aren't terribly exciting, but they generate easy credits and xp! I'm currently running a circuit between Keren and Kaadara (on Naboo) that typically generates 2k credits per trip.

Once you have a few thousand credits in your pocket, then you can start placing harvesters. They can have some impressive start-up costs, so you'll want to have plenty of up front funding.

Good luck!
