I am thinking about rebuilding my character and starting over... so I have alot of ground to make up and I don't have much time to waste

I have spent my time crafting thinking I was succeding only to recently discover that my items were getting increasingly worse.... eventhough I was making "Great Success" on my exsperimentation results

I am on Intriped and base haning around Mos Eisley and Anchorhead

Please help me get started on the right foot by giving me the information I need to succeed

I have read most of the guides I know how to use the survey devices and how to use harvesters and windmills (I know how to break them 2)

but I need help understanding the proper use of metals/resources

1) how to do knowwhat metals to pick for an item that you want to craft

2) what metals are the best to look for

3) if you are crafting an item like a generic crafting device do you use 3 differn't types for each of the componants

4) how can I avoid my crafted items getting worse and worse.... (ie getting negatives to efficency)

5) do you get more exp for surveying differn't types of metals

6) what items are the best to grind/ with what metals

7) when surveying is there a way to tell witch ones are better to look for

8) is copper a high conductive metal

9) is titanium a good metal for casing

any help would be great...

if you know of any more guides or juse really good ones please link here

LadyGray gave me this.. in another thread I missed her response

Generally, look for copper or aluminum, and check the stats on any particular resource to see what the conductivity actually is on it. There can be several types of copper and aluminum at any one time, and each one will have unique stats. Then there will be a resource shift, and new copper and aluminum will spawn, with new unique stats. So the resources are changing on a regular basis, and you have to look at what is available on your server right now. Go to swgcraft.com and see what is currently available, and then go out and try and find the particular resource that has high conductivity. You will want to look for something that is at least 800, and preferably over 900. Also, the resources that are available can be different from one planet to another, so if you really want something, you may have to travel to another planet to find it.Generally, look for copper or aluminum, and check the stats on any particular resource to see what the conductivity actually is on it. the simplest way to understand which materials to use is to look at the "experimental" part of the schematic.

for the generic crafting tool its conductivity. so to build one that will enable you to experiment its quality to a high level you have to look for materials that have a high conductivity. for the Generic tool you need a certain amount of metal and a certain amount of mineral ( cant remember the exact ones) but as all metals fall under the mineral heading you can use metal for both. usually copper has high conductivity but not always, i did find a type of iron that spawned that had higher conductivity than the type of copper that was available at that time (i think the figures were something like 500 for the copper and 650 for the iron)

ok so when you have a high conductivity material (preferably in the 900's) you can make the tool. even though i'm a master artisan my tools are usually -7 or -8 when first crafted but through experimenting i can usually get them as high -14.50 (15 is the maximum as i understand it).

a couple of other things to note

dont associate the metal (copper, aluminium, steel etc.) with a particular quality (conductivity, toughness etc.) it does vary widely. Check the stats for the minerals / metals / shemicals that are currently available when they shift some may no longer be available but may have been replaced with a better or worse type for example

quadranium steel named xxx had a toughness of 800, after the shift its no longer available but a new material quadranium steel named yyy has a toughness of 950.

one other thing, if the schematic asks for mineral then you can use anything which shows as a mineral, if it says metal then you can use any metal. other schematics like the wookie bowcaster need specifics like quadranium steel and dooinium iron which on farstar were unavailable anywhere in the galaxy for about a week.

Ok, lemme try to add some light to the subject.

Crafting

Schematics are the blueprints of what you are going to make.

The Schematics tell you what you need to make and what attributes are important.

When making any item, in the crafting window with the Schematics and showing on the right hand side, scroll down where it says something like
conductivity 100

This means the conductivity is the only thing that effects the product.

In this case ONLY conductivity matters.

If the conductivity is the same, you can use OQ 1 or OQ 1000 resources and still get the same results.

There are others thatsay something like

overall quality 66

unit toughness 33

This basically means the OQ will effect the final product by 66% and the UT 33%.

In this case, ONLY OQ and UT matter.

The higher these attributes are in the resource you use, the better.

Resources

It depends on what you want to craft.

For instance, if you wanted to make vehicles, you would need ferrous and non-ferrous metals with high Shock Resistance.

You don't need ore, gemstones, chemicals, gasor floras.

You don't need anything with low SR, even if the other stats were high.

You only need to look for resources with high SR

By using resources with high stats IN THE AREAS YOU NEED THEM, you will be able to make better products.

Use the Examine feature to examine the resource.

Surveying

Resources shift, or change, periodically.

There are new resources shifting in and old ones shifting out every day accross the galaxy.

The same resource will never spawn again.

Some resources spawn on all planets, others only a few.

Try to survey at least once a day to see if there are any new resourcesout and get a sample.

Check the stats.

If it's good, get more.

If not, forget about it.

You get xp for GETTING SAMPLES, and not surveying.

Think about what you will need to craftand gather the specific resources.

If you want to make food, you will need flora/organics, if you want to make clothes, you will need chemicals/hides, etc.

Finally, READ THE FAQ's and CRAFTING GUIDES in many SWG related sites.

They are very helpful when starting any new profession.

whew.. I thought that I was not getting something.....

everytime I make one mine goes dow so threw exsperimentation I have made increasingly larger negative values

THANK YOU JEDISPAM!! the info on what quality is needed for crafting specific items was something i somehow overlooked in the faqs..you rock!

and davjo in case you dont already use a perfect crafting tool when you make things and do you work at a crafting station rated as high as possible(42 or better) this makes a world of difference
