What are Vendors specifically and how do they work (with regards to the business arm of the artisan tree)?

How does experimentation work, and how does one experiment?

(PS Don't answer if you just want to have a pop at a newbie, I'm so tired of dealing with such people).

Thanks.

Vendors you'll have to ask someone else, I don't know .

Experimentation - you need to be using an advanced kit (something named - Food & Chem, Clothing & Armor, etc). Also, you will need to be near a public (stationed in cities) or private (in player buildings) crafting station for the item you want to craft.

Crafting stations also give you access to more advanced schematics - if a new schematic you got doesn't show up, then make sure you are using the correct tool, and try again near a crafting station. Private stations are considered more advanced - some schematics won't even be available at a public station, you'll need to buy a private crafting station for your house, or use someone else's.

When you're using the correct kit near a crafting station, you will receive an extra window in the crafting process. One option is "Experiment" - this lets you use your experiment points to modify attributes of the item. Next is "Create Prototype", which does what you normally do - produces the item. Third is "Create Manufacturing Schematic". This puts information in youyr datapad on how to mass produce the item. Note that this is used in a factory, and you need to have the exact components used to make the schematic to put in the factory (if you used 18 or a certain steel, you must have 18 more of the same resource type for each item you want to create).

Always experiment first - then you will go back, and have the option to crate an item or schematic. If you create the item or schematic first, you forfeit your chance to experiment.

Good luck!

Vendors are NPC's that you can sell your stuff in.

To have a vendor you need:

Business III

A house

To place a vendor, go to the structure control terminal in the house, choose the option 'create vendor'.

You will then get a number of options on how your vendor should look depending on how much skill you have.

When you finished customizing your vendor it will be created as a item in your inventory. Drop the vendor where you want it in your house. If you are satisfied with the place, open up the radial menu and select 'initialize vendor'.

When the vendor is initialized you should start by paying it some maintenance (15 cr/h I believe). Then you can double click on it and you will get a window similar to the bazaar window (I trust you have used the bazaar, no? )

i'll just add to the last post by saying that with business 3 you only get the box-like vendor or the droid

merchant.

with novice merchant you get access to NPC's (random species etc. as mentioned above)

A follow-up to that. If I get novice merchant place a NPC vendor and then give up the skill, do I loose my vendor or once placed or will it remain operable by me even without novice merchant?

Thanks!

Hmm, yah, I forgot to mention that about the limitations in the beginning

z0rk, I believe there is a bug that makes it possible, but if you did it you would risk loosing everything on your vendor if ythey eventually fixed the bug (that MIGHT exist, I'm not sure)

Currently you can drop the Merchant skill (and even the Artisan branch)and keep your vendors. This will probably change in a future patch... kind of. They will not delete any vendors that are placed, but they are talking about limiting the number of items on a vendor based upon something (probably hiring or vendor count). Merchant is the only skill where you can totally drop the skill and continue to have the benifits of the skill.

On a side note, there's a problem when placing vendors. They sometimes say that they are not intialized after you have intialized them.

There's a work around until it's fixed here:
