Thread: whats the most valuable resource to mine now?
Resources shift every 5-8 days and thus stats change
Whats good _right now_ depends on what you want to use it for (and hence what attribute you are interested in)
Well, based on 10 lots per person, most crafters will use their own Harvesters for the bulk materials needed for their respective grind items. These vary widely by profession, but typically bulk, low-statSteel/Copper/Aluminum/Firberpast is the way to go with those.
However, if the crafter deducts 2 for a house, and 1 for a factory, then maybe 1-2 for power generation, that leaves only 5-6 lots over for actual resource. Even assuming they mine a different thing with each, that is still likely to leave gaps in their stockpiles when making anything other than the specific bulk-grind item.
As an example, I'm an Architect with the above lot allocation. I use my 5 leftovers for Steel, Ore, Copper and Aluminim, and one extra...currrently doing a very good Polymer I found, for my Medic stuff I do on the side.
This still leaves me missing Wood, Inert and Reactive Gases, and Flora Food, which I end up buying, and hating myself for having to do so. I can and do move the fifth harvester slot about to try an cover all these, but it's very inefficient, maintenance-wise to redeed unless the resource has actually shifted.
What you need to do, is check up on the schematics for very commonly sold items, that use five or more resource types. Compare these with that profession's 'grind items', and you'll soon work out who has to buy-in what.
Top-end profession items tend to be very specific, down to the resource category-level; 'Duralloy Steel', 'Lokian Wild Wheat' and so on. These are also good items to go for if you aren't actually making anything yourself. Go to www.swgcraft.com and look up some recipies, or failing that, just start shooting off speculative tells to Master Crafters you see on the street; even if they don't want to buy from you, you can still find out what sorts of things they would buy if they did.
