Thread: Using Custom Schematics
OK Ive never created a custom schematic before and would like some advice if anyone can give it.
(1) If I use the very best resources I can find and have a very good result with experimentation and I create a schematic, do I have to use the very same materials each time I use the scematic?
(2) Does the quality of my crafting tool affect the quality of the scematic that is geneated, or does it just affect me chances of a critical failure?
(3) how many uses do I get out of the schematic?
(4) if the scematic uses are limited to, say 100, can I create two custom schematics that are exactly the same and have both of them in my datapad at the same time?

You have to use the same type of resources as you used to create the schematic. Everything must be identical. If the item has subcompents, they need to be the same serial so they will require a schematic and factory run of their own.

Tool quality affects the outcome of the assembly process. With 14.97 rated tools I rarely get anything below great sucess on assembly. When using the public crafting stations for these I rarely get anything below great success on experimentation (these are artisan items, not eltie crafter items).

I think they can go up to 1000. It's been a while though.
Again, it's been a while, but I believe you can have as many schematics as you want, as long as you have room for them.

1) Yes. Also see note at the end.
2) Crafting a schematic is exactly the same as creating an item, just instead of making a "prototype" item, you make a schematic to mass produce it. The quality of the schematic depends only on your resources, assembly skill, and experimentation success. The quality of the crafting tool and crafting station (public stations are 0.0, privates can range from -45 to +45) may improve the types of experimental success (great, moderate, amazing, etc), but that's still a little fuzzy.
3) When you make the schematic, you can set the production run size to whatever you want, with a maximum of 1000.
4) You can have as many schematics as you have room for in your datapad. Your datapad can hold 100 items, which includes schematics, waypoints, droids, pets, mounts, and missions.
Note: custom schematics are only used in factories. You can't make a good schematic, then use a crafting tool to create identical items. When you load the factory, you put in the schematic you created, along with the exact same resources used to make the schematic (which are listed by name) and start it running.
This creates factory crates, each holding some quantity of the items. The number of items per crate varies depending on the exact item you're making, some are as low as 5, most of the one's I've seen use 25 (which I'm pretty sure is the max). Crates are very handy for consumable items like stimpacks, food, and weapon upgrades since one crate only uses one space in your inventory. So you can have 25 stimpacks in your inventory only taking up 2 spaces, one for the crate of 24 and one that's beenremoved from the crateso you can use it.
