If you have a vendor placed and you drop artisan, what happens to the vendor? And more importantly, what happens to the stuff in the vendor? Can you still use the vendor or not?
Thanks,

From what I've heard you can master Merchant and then surrender it all and still keep all your vendors. This is also on the kill list for the next patch from what I've heard.

One implementation I saw went something like this:
You drop merchant/artisan skills taking you below the level where you can manage all of your currently active vendors. At that point, you can't make any more (obviously), and you lose the capability to place items for sale on existing vendors until you fire some to match your "vendor handling" skill (yes, I made that up, but it gets the point across). You still have access to all the items on all the vendors, they are available to buy, but you won't be able to restock. I seem to remember mention of removing all administration activites (ad barking, planetary registeration) except for paying maintenance or withdrawing items from sale. This makes it so that you don't lose items, have control over which vendor gets removed, but still puts constraints on youabout keeping no more vendors than you actually have skills for.
Note: that's from memory regarding a dev post a couple months ago, I may have gotten details wrong, or they may have re-done any/all of it by now.
AFAIK, right now your "vendor handling" is only checked when you try to create a new one. So if you trained Business III, placed a vendor, and then drop the skill, the vendor remains, and you can work with it as if you still had business III (put items up for sale, accept offers, etc).
