Thread: How often do resources shift?

I've had several harvesters set up mining steel for about a week. But now Im getting to the point that Im nervous about adding on another days maintenance and power if the resources are going to be shifting soon.

I usually save myself some money by just destroying my personal harvesters and building new ones.

Anyone tell me how often they shift or if there is any way to know when a shift is going to happen?

It almost seems daily, but atleast once or twice per week. I've had the same problem. Once, I found some copper at over 900 conductivity. I thought, "Oh boy, I'm going to rack up." So, I placed three harvesters in the area and filled them up with enough credits and power to run for five days. This was done on a Sunday. When I returned on Friday, I found that I had collected a mere 1500 units of the coveted metal (when I was expecting to collect well over 10,000). The harvesters had shut off and wasted probably 70% of my hard earned credits and power.

I've also discovered that it is easier and cheaper to destroy the harvesters and make new ones. Although I haven't added it up, I'm sure it does NOT cost 1500 (or sometimes 3000) credits tocraft a new harvester. Besides, each harvester I craft, I also get 470+ general crafting xp.

This probably didn't help, but at least you now know you're not the only person crying because of shifted resources.

well when ever you are on the planet look at the survey tool, if the resource is still named on it you are fine...

another indication is when you cna't sample resources because the density is too low on a high % spot...

if you know when they shifted in, place a few days maint and power in your harvestors you'll be fine... after like 4-5 days go one days worth at a time, at most you'll lose is a day on eash harvestor that way...

I can just see a "Wait for the Combat Revamp" and "Wait for the Smuggler Revamp" quote all rolled into one.

According to the devs each resource has a 'life' of 5-8 days

There was a dev post a while back an exactly what the system does but the short version is that you are not guaranteed every resource on every planet (in some cases I believe that it only appeared on 2 of the planets) and you are not guaranteed a replacement of the same type when the existing one 'dies'

There is no warning about a shift, but obviously if you spot a resource on its first day you know youve got 5 reliable days mining (bugs not withstanding) and anything after that is a non-guaranteed bonus

easy thing to do ispull out your survey tool for what you're mining.. do this on the same planet aswhere your harvestors are located..and ask yourself "is what i'm mining shoing up on the list in the survey tool?".. if 'yes'. no problem, if 'no'it's shifted. and www.swgcraft.com of course

So there is no set time period that a resources stays on shift?

Resources shift approximatly every 6 days (WAG). Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. There is no set time that I have seen that resources stay spawned. Around New Years I harvested one chemical for over 2 weeks. Then it despawned and crappy stuff showed up. Changed the resources I was harvesting in the hopper to another chemical without moving my harvesters and it only lasted 3 days. If you figure out the master shifting plan let us all know but that is what I have learned from all my resource harvesting days.

In the past some resources would last as long as 2 weeks. It seems now they last about a week, although I have seen spawns last only two days. A great website to use is www. swgcraft.com. This site is maintained by players and is pretty accurate.

I have personally seen meat shift 3 times in one day. Avian on Talus was very high in all stats. Server shutdown shifted it to lousy. That afternoon it shifted to semi decent. The next day at server restart it had reshifted again to decent, but not as good as #1. Probably a bug, but it was fun to try and keep the stacks straight.

It varies per resource and per server. On an average, planetary resources (ore, metal, flora, etc...) shift about every 7-10 days (sometimes less, sometimes more), and harvestable organics (meat/bone/hide) shift every month or so.

But as i said, it varies by server and resource type, and planet.

Also, not everything shifts at once. When the game was first released every resource would shift at once. Now things come and go on their own. Many people keep spreadsheets of when they first see something, so they don't change to it, then have it gone the next day.

From experience it seems ore stays nearly two weeks. Metals around a week. Radioactive seems to go in a week, but wind stays for two weeks. Just what I have noticed, not scientifically tested.
