This has probably been answered, but the forums are too busy for me to do reliable searches.

Is the range on the Survey skill tied to your Survey skill (i.e. would be affected by Survey clothing attachments) or is it directly related to the tier in the skill tree?

There's a Survey +25 sash that I wouldn't mind if it would allow me to drop the 4th box of Survey but still keep the range (because the 4th box gives +25 to Survey).

It is tied to the skill, not the boxes. I don't have any boxes in artisan, but I can survey at 64m with the +20 survey skill from the FS skills. And I believe the survey mods work for attachments, so you should be able to survey at the same range with the sash.

What if you have the 4 boxes plus a +25? I looted a +25 surveying CA last night, is 392 the max range? has anyone tried to see if they would get a farther range if they use a +25 tape and have 4 boxes?

Maybe I will try it anyway, and see what happens, If it doesn't work, can just drop that 4th box and put the 5 pts somewhere else

I don't think that will work. I remember reading once in a Dev Q&A many moons ago that the current range is the maximum. Survey data doesn't extend beyond that for technical reasons. Nice tape though. It would let you get the top box of Survey back. You could pick up 5 boxes of something else with it.

I remember reading somewhere that the FS survey bonus is different than the CA bonuses but I can't find it again....something like the FS bonus working but the CA's don't or some such. I'd like to know if the CA's work....be nice to free up some skill points there.

can you survey with only the +25 and no aritisan? It might be nice to be able to survey when out and about with my main character instead of logging in my Alt, or I could check swgcraft.com I guess

I do not believe so. The /survey skill is granted at Novice Artisan.
