I bought two survey devices (one for water the other for minerals). I'm going around surveying, but not getting any xp at all.

when I trained novice artisan I had enough surveying xp to train 1. Many months ago I surveyed for water and steel a lot, and got a lot of xp that way. Now the same method is not gaining me any xp at all.

I did notice sampling gives a very small amount of xp. But with the 30 second timer, very small amount of xp gained, and failing half of the time, that's not a realistic approach to this.

Did they change this? Or maybe my character is bugged? Any help would be appreciated.

Sampling is now the only way of getting survey xp that i know of

Don't know if i ever got exp for surveying by itself. It would be too easy to get survey exp that way.

Realistic or not this is the way it's done. Try to find a spot that has a higher concentration rate, it will increase your rate of success.

Ahh maybe that's the problem. I'm failing at least 80% of the time and it's driving me crazy. So find a spot with something at like 80% or more and then go to town eh?

Find a good spot and run a sampling macro overnight if you need to. Each successful sample gains you resource to use/sell and XP.

i keep trying to take samples but with everything it says u dont have the proper skills

If you have a low level surveying ability (surveying one or novice artisan for example) you cannot sample resources under a certain percentage. I don't know what the level is exactly, but if you find a resource with an efficiency of at least 70% you shouldn't have a problem sampling it. I think that the higher your surveying level becomes, the lower the efficiency of resources you can sample. Again though, if this is the case I don't know the levels, but I'm sure some others on here can fill you in on that.
