Thread: Newbie questions--what is the benefit of Practice Mode?

If practice mode doesnt make the item, do you still get XP?
Yes, you get the XP plus another 5% XP for doing practice mode. So if you normally get 100 XP for creating the item, you get 105 XP for practice mode and not creating the item.
Note : If you create something that can be used, you get "UXP" (usage xp) when you use the last of it. It works with food (specially good with components with no filling values). UXP is 50% of the actually xp. Example (take from Chef) : Soypro : 80xp (eating it gives 40xp)

Actually, you get usage xp when SOMEONE ELSE uses it up. It doesn't work if you are the one using it, unfortunately. That is why people will sometimes sell items on the bazaar for far less than what they are worth. You get a little money, but you get some experience, which is better than money when you're grinding through a profession.
If you make items that can be used as a component by someone else making things, then when they use the component to make something, you get the usage xp. So you can just give away some things to other crafters, and just sit back and get experience when they use it in their items.
The devsmust have changed this at some point, because at least for food you do get uxp when eating your own creation. I've done exactly what Jedi-Indrialia posted when grinding my TC chef, and the extra 40xp was added after my character ate the soypro he crafted. Uxp isn't gained when eating factory-crafted items, though, although I didn't check to see whether having someone else use it would earn me any.
