The "Live samples" you loot from lairs can be crafted into a "Creature Habitat", schematic gained at Engineering I.

The result looks like a locked container, but when /used, releases the stored creatures in a pretty (but useless) display. Then it's used up. So it's basically like fireworks, but you can use them inside. Glowzees look the best (releases a bunch of fireflies) but no real point.
