Thread: Firework shows?

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned, but I already searched and checked the FAQ, and no mention of this.

How exactly do you get firework shows to launch reliably?

I used to be able to get them to go off, but now for the life of me I can't get a single one to fire. For the record, I have tried this in a no-lag area, while kneeling, both from the radial menu and using the toolbar.

I heard there was a "trick" to getting them to fire, but I can't get anyone to tell me what it is other than "keep clicking Launch" which isn't working.

What seems to work for me (and don't know why it is this way), but if you first "launch" one rocket, it won't actually launch/show the animation, but after that fireworks seem to work correctly.

If that's not your problem, make sure that you add fireworks to the show. The show is just basically one rocket, but you add rockets to the show. Go to your inventory screen, click/hold to get the radial menu, go to something like add event (I think it's at the bottom), it'll bring up a menu, add an existing firework that's in your inventory, and it'll be added to the show. You can add lots of rockets (I've done up to 15, but I think there's no limit, I want to try that some time), and when you start the show they'll be placed one at a time every second or so, and then fire as if they were on their own.

Hope that helps!

Yep, I'm not trying to launch empty shows. The limit is 20 rockets per show, and this one was full.

And the particular instance when I couldn't get them to fire, I had previously launched several regular rockets prior to trying this show...

Strangely enough, even though it wouldn't launch in the middle of nowhere, a few hours later I managed to launch it in the middle of Coronet starport. Odd.

Oh well, thanks for your help!

Well, you can launch multiple shows just like you can launch multiple fireworks.

Here's the technique for an swesome firework display that was taught to me by a guy who did a 10-minute show in Theed a few months back.

The setup:

1. Make as many shows as you can carry. Obvious really, but, you know.
2. Make a macro that will activate each inventory slot in turn every ten seconds, with a moment to kneel in between. Put it into the first toolbar slot in an otherwise empty toolbar- you can switch to an extra for this.

Example Macro:
/kneel;
/pause 1;
/ui action toolbarSlot01;
/pause 1;
/stand;
/pause 8;
... (repeat for each slot up to 24)
then /ui action toolbarSlot00 to activate the macro again.

3. Find your ideal location. Set up 3 waypoints in a triangle about 5-10 meters away from each other. It's not technically necessary, but as you have 8 seconds to hit your mark, it's best to have your marks, er, clearly marked. The reason for the 3 different marks is so that your shows will spread out more, thus making it look like a bigger show and not just more fireworks stacked on top of each other.

The Show:

1. Fill every toolbar slot with a full firework show except the first, which holds your firing macro. Stand on your first mark and hit F1. The fireworks will now go off every 10 seconds, with a 1 second pause so the kneel animation will go through and a 1 second pause for the fireworks to launch before you get up again. If this timing of this is off for you feel free to edit the macro, but remember that you want them to fire around the 10-second mark, 11 or so would be okay but 10 is ideal.
2. As soon as the firework launches and you stand, run to the next mark and wait for the next show to autolaunch. If you have time, put a fresh show into the now empty slot. If you never have time to do this, you need a longer pause.
3. Repeat until your inventory is empty of fireworks.
4. Hit /dump to stop the autolooping macro when done.

This can be modified. With one person there's a limit to the show time because of the limit on inventory space, but if you coordinate with other people there's no limit whatsoever. Just make sure everyone knows where they are to stand, and what order you hit your macros in. If you have a group of friends who will take orders, you can get up to 10 people easily, and you don't have to run to hit your marks with this one.

It seems that whatever was giving me issues with fireworks has resolved itself. I highly reccomend practicing and learning to set up firework displays for yourself... in fact, I'm planning to devise different patterns for shows, give them creative names, set up a vendor and use a huge display such as this in Theed and similar places as advertisement.

What?!? There IS a limit? Aww man, and here I was coming up with plans for ultra huge 15 minute fireworks shows for the 4th of July and selling them for like 200k :/ How sad

I know you can fire off multiple shows and have the 15 minute effect. I was just hoping I could do it all in one go, would be easier to sell on those special occasions. I envisioned a "Huge backpack of fireworks," but then I thought that when people first buy it, they'd have to have a clear inventory since it wouldn't be equipped right off the bat :/ I still think that'd be fun hehe.
