Thread: Small survey problem...

I... can't survey. Well, I can, it just refuses to sample anything. Can you get real resources from Sampling, I thought you could, but maybe I'm just dumb...

"You can only find trace amounts of XX here..."
"Sampling XX here seems a bit beyond your skill level" (or something)

I'm getting tired of those messages *sigh*...

Find a higher concentration spot then try again.

It is either one of two issues:

1) You need to try sampling in a higher concentration area

or

2) The resource is shifting. If it is shifting (either in or out) you won't be able to sample it despite the concentration.

Take care

yep, what they said <points up to other replies>

if you survey and get a concentration less than 35-40% then you probably will get the "trace amounts" thing. Just notice that when you survey it makes a waypoint to the highest concentration in range of your tool (64m as a novice). Then go to that waypoint and hit survey again. Keep doing that until the waypoint quits moving or stays in one general area going back and forth (you would probably notice that at this point the concentration numbers recede in every direction.) The higher the concentration the better your chance of getting a sample. If you find a good 80-90% spot you can usually pull 5-10 units a sample with the occasional failure.

Good luck.

33% is the magic number for always being able to take a sample.

Well failing to sample on a sampling roll is based off of your survey skill mod, not the concentration.

I've sampled on a 20% before. Only gave me 1 unit, and I think a 'rich concentration' gave me 2, but I did pull them.

It's worse than that. I was on a 97% fiberplast spawn and got 8-12 in a row then I went away and came back and got fail after fail (even after resurvey) and this is sitting right beside my harvester that was pulling the whole time. (I wanted 20k of the resource and the harvester had 19500 so I sampled next to it to speed up getting the rest)

Then their random number generator is broke big time (But crit fail results already told us that ) My survey skill is maxed and I was on a 97% resource.

Right. But what I am saying is that at anything less than 33% (well, you be able to sampl sometimes with 32% - not sure if there are hidden decimals involved), you will never be able to hand sample a single unit. You will get the "trace amounts" message. This is only important if you are merely trying to sample to get stats. In that case, you can head to a 33% spot and start sampling.

I often get single unit samples. I sample down to 10% if I dont want to chase after a resource when I jsut want to assay it.
